Hi, I've got over 150 PCs being upgraded to XP over the coming weeks, all with different screen resolutions.

Is it possible to set a policy in Server 2003, to say this screen is 800x600, so display the 800x600 wallpaper, this screen is 1024x768 etc. when the user logs on?

Is it possible? Or do I have to put up with stretched images?

Not sure, although I believe there may be a setting for it. Don't have a Server 2003 PC at my disposal at the moment.

I may be wrong but when XP detects the a different monitor will it not suggest a resolution change if needed? This would leave me to set it to some odd number by default on the installs and when they boot it on another machine xp will fix it auto. I will try and confirm this.

[Edit] I just relized i missed understood the post. Yes Higher resolution pictures shouldn't pose any issues. try 1600x1200

Wallpapers with higher resolutions than the screen resolution are not a problem: they just look better

e.g.: try a 1600x1200 wallpaper

If you create a wallpaper to the default windows size,

think it is 800x600

then each machine should pick up the wallpaper and adjust it to the better resolution, depending on the setting on each client.

as long as your image is the default size windows will do the rest i think.

No, you're entirely wrong.

e.g.:

image: 800x600

resolution: 1024x768

==>image will be stretched

image: 1600x1200

resolution: 1024x768

==>image will be fitted
