Howto all of Office 2003 to SP1 (all progs - long)

To consolodate some links into one posting...

It is possible to add SP1 to all of the Office 2003 Products.

I used this guide as my model:

First Off -

Create Administrative Installs

Use the guide above for assistance. But for each program, run its corresponding setup.exe with the /a switch.

So I had to run the following commands from my AiO cd (d:\):

d:\office\setup.exe    /a
d:\frontpage\setup.exe /a
d:\onenote\setup.exe   /a
d:\project\setup.exe   /a
d:\visio\setup.exe     /a

I installed to the following folders:

c:\OFFICE2003sp1\office
c:\OFFICE2003sp1\frontpage
c:\OFFICE2003sp1\onenote
c:\OFFICE2003sp1\project
c:\OFFICE2003sp1\visio

EXTRACT ALL THE PATCHES

From a CMD line run the following to extract the files for all your SP1 patches. Run it from where the patches are located.

OneNote2003SP1-kb842774-fullfile-enu.exe  /Q /C /T:C:\SP1onenote
Project2003-KB837240-FullFile-ENU.exe     /Q /C /T:C:\SP1project

APPLY THE SERVICE PACKS

From a CMD line run the following to install the service packs and patches.

Next -

MAKE A CD/DVD

The program is too big for one cd, so you'll need to either make a DVD or make several cds.

All 5 CD's after slipsteamed with SP1 are 1.70 GB (1,832,327,168 bytes)

Office 2003 SP1    - 637 MB
FrontPage 2003 SP1 - 360 MB
OneNote 2003 SP1   - 147 MB
Project 2003 SP1   - 225 MB
Visio 2003 SP1     - 376 MB

After using cdimage.exe to make an ISO, the CD is 907MBs.

Command to make a cdimage - optimized ISO:

cdimage.exe -lOFFICE2003 -h -n -m -o c:\OFFICE2003sp1 c:\office2003.iso

Finally -

CLEAN UP

Delete all the SP1 files and folders. Once you've verified your cds or DVDs, delete the administrative install folders (c:\OFFICE2003sp1)

I really don't see why this was neccesary, but very nicely displayed though.

I thought the Unattend site was enough. You apply the patch that belongs to the program, to the program. Was it really that hard to understand?

And I believe most people don't have the problem of making the updates, it that they was 900 megs on a 700 meg CD.

it was not necesary, much like most all other posts on the board. It was just an easy way to show others what to do. And the unattended site doesn't explain how to do the other programs, so those that didn't know to do it, wouldn't do it.

That is what i used. However you need to update the other copies of the OWC. I suppose you could update it once and copy it to the other folders?

I believe there other way to copy on cd 700 MB.
