synapse1337 Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 I finished my unattended disc and tested it using Virtual PC only to find that it didnt install on its own. I rechecked everything and its all in the right place. winnit.sif is under i386. any thoughts? virtual pc problem perhaps? im at a huge loss.
synapse1337 Posted July 23, 2004 Author Posted July 23, 2004 It just loaded the setup wizard and asked me to type in my name and organization... all the stuff the .sif should do. Basically defeating the purpose of an unattended install.
BenjaminKalytta Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 It has nothing to do with Virtual PC. You have to specify certain data in winnt.sif which always have to be filled in otherwise windows will ask to enter it.Just take a look at ref.chmBenjamin
synapse1337 Posted July 24, 2004 Author Posted July 24, 2004 Accidently had two entries of the same thing. Should work now.
wyattXP Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 check to see if you have winnt.cmd/.bat whatever it is in the root directory of the CD
synapse1337 Posted July 24, 2004 Author Posted July 24, 2004 check to see if you have winnt.cmd/.bat whatever it is in the root directory of the CDHmmm... i sure dont have that. Was that the .bat file made along with the unattended file?
synapse1337 Posted July 24, 2004 Author Posted July 24, 2004 So, I reread the giude, read the chm, and fixed a couple problems and its still not working. To recap how i did the unattended file, i first ran setupmgr and it left me with unattended.bat and unattended.txt so i renamed unattended.txt to winnit.sif and put it in my i386 folder. Maybe i did something wrong there?? Anyways, here's a copy of my winnit.sif... any thoughts?;SetupMgrTag[Data] AutoPartition=0 MsDosInitiated="0" UnattendedInstall="Yes"[unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended OemPreinstall=Yes OemSkipEula=Yes TargetPath=\WINDOWS UnattendSwitch="yes" FileSystem=*[GuiUnattended] AdminPassword=d8eab70b3c5651e718408cbff77fc948aec3bd26575f033f9b8e674b8cfda7ef EncryptedAdminPassword=Yes OEMSkipRegional=1 TimeZone=20 OemSkipWelcome=1[userData] ProductKey= FullName="Will G" OrgName="|| S Y N A P S E ||" ComputerName=[Display] BitsPerPel=32 Xresolution=1280 YResolution=1024[identification] JoinWorkgroup=WORKGROUP[Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=Yes[Components] msmsgs=off msnexplr=off zonegames=off
prathapml Posted July 24, 2004 Posted July 24, 2004 First of all, check if file-name extensions is not being shown, the exact file name should be:WINNT.SIFSometimes people have accidentally had their setup file name winnt.sif.TXT - which is obviously unused by setup. I also noticed that you called the file "winnit.sif" which is wrong (name it as mentioned above).
WwTIPPYwW Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 is your key in your file, and just edited out for the posting? Or did you forget to put that in the file?
synapse1337 Posted July 25, 2004 Author Posted July 25, 2004 I edited out the product key and such. In regards to the "winnit.sif"... i had it lower case. i did notice everything else is caps... didnt think it was case sensitive..
agent_smudge Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 Sorry synapse, I think what prathapml was getting at was your rogue 'i' (winnit, should read winnt) I have used winnt.sif in lower case and it worked fine for me.RegardsSmudge
synapse1337 Posted July 25, 2004 Author Posted July 25, 2004 Im retarded. Thanks! I'll test it again.
