dkreifus Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 I am trying to share folders on my Windows XP machine.I have simple file sharing enabled. And when I go to a folder to share, and I select Sharing and Security, the entire page is grayed out.Is there a registry, Service, or some kind of setting I may have disabled?

BAM Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Can u give us a small screenshot with that..?Perhaps its a permission thingy?
riZz Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Maybe u don't have admin privileges...dont know if this would effect this from happening.
Curv Boll Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 You dont need admin rights to share, you can share if you created the folder or a member of a group that has been given permission to share such as the power users.Have you tried creating a new folder and then sharing it??
Phyridean Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Check to make sure (in the properties of your network adapter) that File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks hasn't been uninstalled or omitted. I've had this problem before, and I think that worked.
enuffsaid Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Do you login with a password? If you don't, set yourself a password and try again.
dkreifus Posted July 26, 2004 Author Posted July 26, 2004 Check to make sure (in the properties of your network adapter) that File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks hasn't been uninstalled or omitted. I've had this problem before, and I think that worked.I checked the file and print sharing like you suggested. The properties option wasn't available. As you see, properties isn't availableSo I clicked on Install..I'm exactly sure of my steps from here...
