Replacing System files on CD

Recommended Posts

If they come as DLL files and not just icons, you should be able to replace them on the CD.

Just run modpe on the dll and exe files and then compress them. You can find modpe on the unattended website at http://unattended.msfn.org.

To compress the files, use makecab (makecab.exe filename). It comes standard with windows.

Then, replace the files on the original CD and see if it works. If it doesn't try disabling WFP.

The only real way to find out is to try it for yourself.

There (http://mavisxp.com/crystal/) seem to be only ico files in in, no single dll. :rolleyes:

@DreamweaverN

so I don't have to go through all the hardware to install it everytime I install Windows . Can this be done?

How do you normally install that icon package on your system? Manually link each file type and so on with the corresponding icon??? :D:)

i suggest that you do not use the wmplayer.exe even after youve modifype it then cab it, it seems to mess up the unattended process, at the 13 minute mark, but everything else works fine but dosnt all show up, so if you want to use the trash bin and network icons call them out through your custom theme file , if theres any other files youd like to replace meaning icons that that pack wont replace right, let me know i may be able to help you out with some reg tweaks, i havnt checked all of the it out that came in the pack yet but i have installed them all and havnt weeded out what hasnt worked yet as for file types and what not well thats what i got so far ,

hope that helps

Sorry to dig up this old thread. But i was just wondering if those pack are still getting updated.

Because i was thinking they will ever get updated in SP2 / update so the file i am replacing will no longer be the lastest.

Or are icon files never updated at all.
