Diabolical82
How do I replace this annoying internet icon with opera browser... can't seem to find a way. Simple registry fix or anything that work would be great!
[BM]Crusher
did you try using regsnap?take a snapshot with the nothing icon... then use 'Program Access and Defaults" to set the icon to be Opera... then take another snapshot it will tell you what was changed in the registry
Diabolical82
k i'll try that, i'll google for regsnap
[BM]Crusher
regsnap is shareware... there are freeware alternatives but i find regsnap to be easiest (it actually makes working REG files for you too)... if you want to keep using it after the trial period expires just buy it I would have done the reg-snapping for you, but... I only have IE6 installed so I cannot use 'Program Access and Defaults' to change that icon (nothing to change it too it just greys out the option for me)

Alanoll
tried importing keys for HKLM>Software>Clients>StartMenuInternetbut nope...could you post what you have tried? Regtweak maybe. It could just be a typo and you're not seeing it. I've done it a few times, and it's a real pain when that happens.
big poppa pump
****! Why cant some people use the search function. A 10 second search yielded this result.;Set the Start Menu sticky apps[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\StartMenuInternet]@="Opera.exe"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Opera.exe]@="C:\\Program Files\\Opera7\\Opera.exe""Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Opera7"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\Opera.exe]@="Opera""LocalizedString"="Opera"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\Opera.exe\DefaultIcon]@="C:\\Program Files\\Opera7\\opera.exe,0"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\Opera.exe\shell\open\command]@="C:\\Program Files\\Opera7\\opera.exe"

[BM]Crusher
Your reg is not enough... you forgot the most important part (the first line here) plus you forgot to add the App Path[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\StartMenuInternet]@="Opera.exe"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Opera.exe]@="C:\\Program Files\\Opera75\\Opera.exe""Path"="C:\\Program Files\\Opera75"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\Opera.exe]@="Opera""LocalizedString"="Opera"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\Opera.exe\DefaultIcon]@="C:\\Program Files\\Opera75\\opera.exe,0"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\Opera.exe\shell][HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\Opera.exe\shell\open][HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\Opera.exe\shell\open\command]@="C:\\Program Files\\Opera75\\opera.exe"
