bucketbuster
Hi,I'm having problems with my Visual Effects settings.I exported this key:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects] and put it in my regtweaks.reg.But when I tested with VirtualPC the Visual Effects settings I exported weren't applied. Is there maybe another key which handles those settings or can I import them at another stage of the installation? bucketbuster
All I know is that they are executed at the end of my main_batch.cmd, which itself is executed by winnt.sif.
DarkBringer
Visual Effects settings have been a sore spot for a while now. I don't think anyone has figured out how to set them the way they want it.I think it's because the settings are stored in more than one place. jrzycrim
I export this key and merge my .reg file from cmdlines.txt. Works for me.[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects]Cheers,
Alanoll
yeah....HKCU seems to work better then HKLM. Also more logical.
bucketbuster
Couldn't I just use both to be sure?
jrzycrim
You can. It won't harm anything. The important thing to remember is that any HKCU keys need to be added from cmdlines.txt or before.I place all of my HKCU keys in HKCU.reg and then merge it from cmdlines.txtExample.[COMMANDS]"REGEDIT /S HKCU.reg""RunOnceEx.cmd"If you do it from RunOnceEx, for example, the reg file will be merged into the registry. However, when RunOnceEx command are executed, you are already logged into windows When logging off/rebooting, current explorer settings are written back into the registry, overwriting the settings you just merged.
