Win98 CD BootImage

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I tried editing the boot image of the win98SE CD as i really like the fact it defaults to booting off the HDD. I added in Format and xcopy and then burnt it back to the disk. Unfortunately this doesn't work, the disc isn't bootable. Any ideas why?

Cheers

Chris

Have you set changed the right settings in the BIOS ?

I think you are using an old computer (why would you install W98 otherwise ?) you may risk not being able to set the right options.

In my BIOS it is calles boot order. Change it to your C-drive.

did you replace the files in the floppy image? (the boot sector of the Win98 disk is actually a floppy, atleast mine is) and then when you recreated the image used the edited Image as the bootsector.

In CDIMAGE you just tell it the img file instead of the WinXP bootsector. I dunno how in Nero.

in Nero, when you use the microsoft image, you select:

no emulation

4 sectors

and it boots... I guess it would be the same for the win98 one?

Although, why not use CDSHELL I am positive it gives you a "Boot from first hard drive" option... plus it's a lot easier to add items to the menu and have it load image files (like norton ghost, partition magic or whatever you need)
