Removing SearchApp.exe makes start menu slow to show up, but only on the primary monitor

Featured Replies

It takes about 5 seconds to show. The taskbar hangs for the duration. Search functionality doesn't seem to be affected. If anything, it seems faster.

Also, oddly the delay is only on the primary monitor! (This details is what makes me believe something can be done on the StartIsBack side rather than waiting for MS to fix their ***** updates.)

I renamed the SearchApp folder because it was behaving like malware - spawning tons msedgewebview2 processes and hogging memory for no purpose. I would like to keep that pest off my machine.

New Win10 update with WebView2 news&interests may make taskbar lock up every time when it tries to update them. I don't know a way to disable it.

So the taskbar locks up, not the start menu?

But why just the primary monitor.... 🤔 Cuz news and interests can only show on the primary monitor?

I wanna strangle someone at MS right now.

Btw, you can kill the WebView2 processes and they won't come back, but killing search app makes it come back. And removing search app makes the start menu (and I guess taskbar) freeze for 5-10 sec.
