pcalvert Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 (edited) Earlier in the week my mother reported that Windows Update is now reporting 80+ important updates and 6 optional updates. Prior to this, Windows Update was reporting zero important updates and 80+ optional updates. It seems that about 80 optional updates suddenly got moved over to "Important". Very strange. Does anyone have any idea of what might have caused this? OS: Windows 8.1, 64-bit. Phil Edited November 16, 2018 by pcalvert
pcalvert Posted December 6, 2018 Author Posted December 6, 2018 In case anyone else encounters a similar situation, this was the cause: My mother changed the configuration for Windows Update and didn't tell me. She checked a checkbox that we purposely unchecked when setting up Windows 8.1 on her computer (see attached picture). Phil

erpdude8 Posted January 19, 2019 Posted January 19, 2019 man, I hate it when that happens Installing MS Office 2007 or higher and enabling Microsoft Update from any MS Office app might do the same thing and offer 100+ important updates (and take much longer windows update / microsoft update scans)
