I have installed java 8 before with Bllackwingcat's extended kernel but now after a reinstall i get "this program has generated errors and will be closed by windows an error log is being created"

i have tried both offline and online installers

has anyone else gotten the latest java to install?

unzip and copy to

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_121

then select in Java Control Panel, and un-select the previous version?

It doesn't work here. Control panel shows Java 8 is installed, but https://www.java.com/verify/ and javatester.org/ fails with Exception:
