Flasche
I know another petition was posted here, but its still not a reason to not sign. Opera is robbing the internet from freedom, as soon a chrome based internet will arise with Google as its king. So please help and spread this petition. It only needs 15 more. http://www.change.org/petitions/opera-software-asa-open-source-the-presto-engine

vinifera
won't happen1. Presto is being used in certain software2. Presto was never free, thus no reason to become opensource3. Chairman & Board of Opera won't allow it
Jody Thornton
But what good is it to Opera Software, if they have now shifted to WebKit?
vinifera
well look onto it like with Windows OS95, 98, ME (yes I am listing DOS based ones on purpose)they all went out of support not being invested in and abandoned FOREVERbut you still won't get open source of them ever they bear no value to owner (MS), just like Presto to Opera, but they got their money from it (sponsors), and they don't want NOW anyone to have benefit of it for freelets take you invent new type of engine for cars and you earn money of it10 years later it becomes useless and you abandon it, and now approaches you people who want to use itfor their own product/carwould you give it for free ? Chairman & Board of Opera won't allow itHere's a list of things that were said to never happen http://www.rense.com/general81/dw.htm . An attitude like that wont help trying to get them to allow it . Its persistence that wins out in the end.
vinifera
Its persistence that wins out in the end. only if you have something to bargain withwhich nobody hasRandom people: "release Presto as Open Source !"Opera: "why should we ?"its that simple...what ?, will everyone mutiny against new chromed opera ?I already see quite many people switching from chrome to new opera even if its incomplete garbageI will use Opera 11.52 as long as I can, but I use Pale Moon parallel to Operaunfortunately at the end it will come to just 2 engines fight for webMozilla and WebkitTrident I doubt it will ever gain power as it gets updated once in 3 years Edited March 11, 2014 by vinifera

(In other words we want it for an open web)
vinifera
and again, from Opera ASA view "who gives a **** what they want"as nobody has right to demand it from them

Look at what happened to windows when they took the start menu away.
