Websites automatically blocking and banning Windows 95 users

Recommended Posts

The message is displayed regardless of what web browser is used. It seems like some kind of IP blocking.

Well, I get it with Opera but not with (say) Srware Iron, that lets me access the pages fine .

But I will reiterate how a misconfiguration or more generally "issues" can happen to everyone :(, anytime, whilst crafting a message like:

Because of continued abuse from users with the browser you are currently using, I'm disallowing that browser from WindowsBBS.com.

is intentional and plain stupid.

WindowsBBS.com loads for me in Opera 9.25/Win2k. I have run into a ban page before when I attempted to browse a forum with Firefox 2/NT3.51. They were also blocking WGET. But the forum loaded in Opera 4. It's all pretty arbitrary and pointless. I told the forum admin that if I were a spambot I would spoof my useragent. He was not interested.
