March 18, 200422 yr Well I've followed gosh's guide, and done some other tweaks and slimmed my iso down to 198 megs, using 14 processes and 50 megs of memory when running. But there are four copies of svchost running, some using more memory than the others. My question is this: What is svchost, and can I safely remov it. If so, how? TIA
March 18, 200422 yr svchost is used for many windows services... check your services management console (services.msc) to see which services use svchost.exe
March 18, 200422 yr Author Ok, I know how to enable, disable servies and such, but how do I find out wich ones use svchost?edit: Is it path to executable? I'm thinking so.
March 18, 200422 yr its got nothing to do with gosh's guides...when u install xp there will be 4 copies of svchost. u can get rid of 3 of them. but 1 u definitely need (rpc).most of them u can disable or set to manual.if u have static ip u can disable dhcp.. well okay it'd be a very long post if u was to post every service.so instead go herehttp://www.blkviper.com
March 18, 200422 yr so as black viper suggested I've some profiles running. I've main and games. so when I log into games I don't have much services running. only ones I need to play games online..I agree leave them alone if u dunno what u're up to
March 19, 200422 yr Author Thanx XtremeMAC! I created a custom services reg file on BlackVipers site, and tested it. XP starts up with 11 processes, and only uses 40 megs of memory! OMG 40 megs! : Thanx again guys!
March 19, 200422 yr shooo, that doesn't beat MY WinXP using only 274 megs. lol talk about waste of resources. HAHA
