I downloaded all the Windows XP drivers for this laptop and they all seem to work just fine on Windows 2000...except for the webcam. The XP version will not work on Windows 2000. Is there anyway to recreate the driver or make it somehow compatible with Windows 2000? I really want to video chat with my girl and also use Windows 2000 on my laptop which is the only webcam I have. Can anyone help me with this problem? Thanks!

In the past I once managed to get a Creative webcam work. I had to extract the installer and literally force the system to install the drivers through Device Manager. There were many drivers included in the package and after many trials and errors there was finally one that worked. I also remember that only the cam worked but not the built-in microphone.

I tried that and unfortunately did more harm to the system than good, such as disabling the modem literally. The package I think had to deal with the number 5116 or something to that degree so I don't know if that's the one you dealt with or not. I did try the brute force trick but nothing actually worked. I even tried bwc's FCWIN utility and it still didn't see through the faked OS. So I'm not sure what Creative did to it as I know later SoundBlaster drivers will work if you force them. I basically see no reason why XP made drivers can't work on Windows 2000 as their builds are literally identical. But manufacturers are forcing people to upgrade, so they put these id*** limitations in them.

I'm just going to use this topic for another webcam problem. I bought an awesome Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 from an estate sale. It had no disks or anything but I figured out that it was this model. However, I can't get it working at all in Windows 2000. I tried blackwingcat's instructions on his blog, however, I get the software installed but the camera itself won't work and it just has a little black ! in a yellow circle in device manager. Any ideas how I can get this working? It works in Vista so I know I have the right drivers. It says XP and above but we all know that most of the time this stuff can work on 2000 as well. Any input would be way appreciated.

The software itself without the driver is useless ;)

You may try to download the drivers, unpack it, go to "Drivers", unpack "LWS_Driver_Installer_x86.exe" and try to install the driver present in "$_OUTDIR\PRO5" using Device Manager.

Hey buddy, I did that already. I even did it on a clean install of Windows but all I get is that error and then for the video part it says, Error Code 10, device cannot start. When I tried using the mic part of the webcam, I just got a blue screen. So, I don't know what's going on.

Probably the driver itself is not compatible with Win2k and must be modified to work... so you should probably ask BlackWingCat to have a look at it ;)

You may also ask about it on Windows 2000 Gaming forum.

I would be forever grateful if he would look at that driver for me. It's now the deal breaker of keeping Windows 2000 or upgrading. :(

I don't know the driver version you installed.

It's very important.

I've tried a couple of them, including the latest version, I believe it's version 13.31.1044.0.

It seems to be compatible fo Windows 2000 Driver.

But It use Dx9 files. and KB888111

Did you install both ?

And it has three drivers.

Video driver and Camera driver and Microphone driver.

Can you recognize which driver doesn't work ?

I don't think I have KB888111 installed, I'll have to check. But I'm pretty sure it's the camera driver itself that doesn't work. I know the audio driver looks okay. But under imaging devices it shows Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 with the yellow circle and the ! in it.
