I make my harddisk in 3 partitions. first in 3,1 Gb (T:), second in 40 (C:), and third (D:) is the rest. I want to make a backup recovery that I put in first partition, my OS in second partition dan the third partition is for data. I used ghost to backup my C: and put it in T:. then I use grub4dos, I put it in T: (Grub.exe, grldr and menu.lst. but then I don't know how to edit the menu.lst so that i can choose whether to go to OS or to restore the data back to C:. somebody help me! Not sure you're taking it the right way putting your boot files on the non active partition. What's the OS on C: ? (backup is less than 3 Gig?). Maybe read the first pages of this tutorial?

that's non-active partition, but it works. i mean the grub4dos runs from that partition. i just can't edit the menu.lst to make me enable to choose between OS and the restored data. o yeah, i installed win xp3 home in c:. i have read the guides, but i am still so confused to do something better.

Do you see in your crystal ball that "T:" is a non-active partition? (as this piece of info is amissing in the OP)

Unless you did something very very wrong while attempting to install mbldr, it won't "lose" your partitions , more probably you set them as "hidden" .

Check what you see in Disk Management.

You most probably only need to unhide them.

A suitable tool (running from Windows) is MBRWIZ:

or you can use any disk editor and directly change the partition ID in the MBR.

Or you can re-run the MBRLDR installer, this time making all partitions visible.

In any case, TESTDISK should be able to find again the "lost partitions" (should their entries have been deleted from the partition table, which as said I doubt)

2. I chose F1, F2 for the key.

3. I hit the Save to MBR button.

I also couldn't find any button to hide and unhide partition.

What do you think the checked checkbox in second image marked "Hide other Partitions at boot time" is supposed to do? (I mean if not hiding other partitions at boot time? )

Re-install/re-configure MBLDR UNchecking that box.

Let's check if they are hidden, OK?

Easiest would be if you get PTEDIT32:

And post a screenshot of it (after having selected the affected disk).

I am sorry to mr. jaclaz for being too late to come back to this forum.

I was sick and let my work undone for long time. i used ptedit and set all the table to zero (after using any number from the list i got vailed). thanks. i did it.

here what i did:

i use my first partition as C: with Windows Home OS; the second partition is for T: and i put ghost.ima, my C: backup using ghost. I also install GRUB4DOS at T: and put my grub and menu.lst in it. it works fine. So when the first boot, in 3 second I can choose between entering the OS or using the ghost backup.
