goodtrip Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 hi! i've just refurbishrd an ibm thinkpad r30 with windows 98 SE and i'm trying to connect to internet.i've downloaded drivers from lenovo website and i've followed the instructions. but when i tried to install the Intel 8255x-based PCI Ethernet Adapter(10/100) it asked me the "intel pro adapter cd-rom" that i don't have... anyone knows how to solve?
nitroshift Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Hello goodtrip and welcome to THE forums You don't need the CD, just browse for the required file(s) to the location where you extracted the driver files.nitroshift
goodtrip Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 i've already done that step but it asks me the inte cd-rom during the setup of theese files .maybe i've also to instal this one: Link what do you think?
nitroshift Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Definitely try it. If this fails too, uncompress all the files and burn them onto a CD.nitroshift
tain Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Maybe he is having the problem where TrustedInstaller gets confused about what files it is looking for and where to find them. I've seen it happen a few times on different win7 boxes. You point right at the correct file but the installer insists that is wrong. I recently had to change the wifi drivers on a thinkpad due to slow speeds so I feel your pain!
nitroshift Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 AFAIK Win98 didn't have such a thing as TrustedInstaller, it was introduced in Vista (am I correct here?), so I'm pretty sure it's a bug in the driver installation procedure code which makes it look for a CD only.nitroshift
Tripredacus Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Windows 98 will remember the last 4-5 locations, but will only automatically search in the last location. Its a pain, but any time you install a driver (or change your tcp/ip settings) you'll have to keep changing where Windows needs to find the files. Its probably the only annoying thing about Win98 that I can think of.
