nLite closes down by itself

nLite closes down by itself. Why?

I just installed nLite ver. 1.4.9.1

When I run it I select a copy of XP sp2 on my I:xp folder

or

I select the CD and let nLite copy the required files to I:xp2

I click on next

The next screen comes up and then nLite closes by itself.

I have re-booted after installing nLite.

What would cause nLite to close by itself?

Thanks,

Docfxit

Well, that's strange. Do any pop-up messages appear? Which OS are you using it on? Have you tried running it in Compatibility mode and see what happens?

Cheers

No pop-up messages.

XP Pro sp2

I have not tried Compatibility mode. What would you suggest?

Thanks,

Well, I was thinking of Compatibility mode in case you were using Vista or 7. This hasn't been tested, but set it to Windows 2000 and see if it changes anything. You can always undo it. Report back.

Edit: if it doesn't work, consider reinstalling nLite.

I tried compatibility mode for 2000. It still disappeared.

I tried pointing to the folder that nLite created from the CD. It gave me an error saying it needs to have i386 in the folder. It does have i386 in the folder.

What's up?

Did you read the edit in my previous post? Try reinstalling nLite, both the installer or the self-extracting archive. Get it here http://nliteos.com/download.html

The culprit is obviously not .NET Framework, since nLite wouldn't start at all if that were the issue.

Sorry. I didn't see your edit.

I have re-downloaded and re-installed. I'm going to uninstall and then re-install now.

I installed nLite (same download) on a different PC.

I copied the XP CD Install files (same folder) to the different PC.

It ran with no problems.

The differences I see between the two PC's are:

1. The first PC is running XP sp2. The second is running XP sp3.

2. The first PC has the XP CD folder on a different drive than nLite. The second PC has the XP CD folder on the same drive as nLite.

Thank you for your help & support.

It really doesn't matter which drive you use for nLite and for the process, as long as you try to have a short path for the source, e.g. C:\XPCD.

As far as I know, the Service Pack level also makes no difference; if it works on Win2000, it will work on XP as well. I'm running out of ideas here. Wait around for someone else to give a suggestion.

Cheers
