FZ1 Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 (edited) Hello,I'd like to slipstream Intel's AHCI drivers using a Dell XP Pro x86 SP3 reinstallation disc for the source. I've left all nLite options at default except to slipstream the AHCI driver and create the bootable .iso.I used this forums instructions for systems with SSD's (the RST textmode driver v10.1.0.1008).No errors or issues during OS install, but on first boot "Windows could not load the installer for battery...". I fixed that by moving batt.dll from my OS source directory to windows\system32 and rebooting.Next, while attemting to run the installer for the Dell's network adapter drivers I get "The Windows installer service could not be accessed". Fixed it by starting the "Windows Installer" service which wasn't running.Bottom line, it sure doesn't look like everything with Dell's install was left alone except for the AHCI driver I added. It looks like nLite changed several other things. Is there a way to leave EVERYTHING alone except for the AHCI drivers? I'd expect that to yield a more stable system.Target system is a Dell Latitude 2110 netbook with a N470 Atom processor, which I think means an ICH7.I don't have any of these issues when the OS is installed directly from the CD.Thanks for any help!Last Session.ini Edited March 31, 2011 by FZ1
GrofLuigi Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Hello,Your last session.ini indicates that nLite didn't change anything it shouldn't have. I think it changes some small things behind the curtains, but they shouldn't have such serious consequences. I would be more suspicious of the source disk (Dell reinstallation disk) as it's unknown (to nLite) what and how much differs from original disks from Microsoft. Also, I would place the drivers in a shorter path (example: c:\drivers), just in case, but it's unlikely that that is the reason. To be sure, you can try manual integration (note: I haven't tested it, but it looks like that should be it. Around there you can also find instructions for creating a bootable CD).GL
Ponch Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 I don't have any of these issues when the OS is installed directly from the CD.From the very same CD ?
FZ1 Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 From the very same CD ?Correct, which makes it difficult for me to blame it.Other differences using nLite's image:- different desktop background and theme-GUI setup which usually asks to configure automatic updates and enter a user name is skipped.- Administrator password required to log in- several items missing from start menu (remote desktop and others)- Attempting to run Dell's driver installer for the netbook's DW 1520 wireless card gives an error that the hardware could not be found. To be sure, you can try manual integration (note: I haven't tested it, but it looks like that should be it. Around there you can also find instructions for creating a bootable CD).I'll definitely try this as it might accomplish my mission, but getting nLite to behave would save me a lot more time in the future.

Untick Skip OOBE in the Unattended section; this is a per-user setting, but will also make the activation screen and other screens show up;3. Enter the password in that same screen and it won't be required;4. If they are missing, it means you opted for their removal;5. Is there any special requirement for that driver, like a .NET Framework or similar?Cheers Edited April 1, 2011 by Sp0iLedBrAt
FZ1 Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 (edited) 1- ok2- Skip OOBE isn't ticked3- ok4 - Nothing selected for removal, but batt.dll and start menu items are still missing. Also, Windows Installer Service not set to automatic. See this attachment.5- No, because the driver installs fine when the Dell OS disc is used, and .Net doesn't show in add/remove programs after installing OS from Dell disk. Also, I was unable to manually integrate the drivers using the above instructions. Intel's drivers are too different from those in the example for me to correctly follow (I'm dumb).LAST SESSION.INI Edited April 1, 2011 by FZ1
Sp0iLedBrAt Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 (edited) I see you're using Fernando's modded drivers, which should do the trick. Are you integrating them in TXT mode?Look at this page http://win-x.co.cc/nliteimages.html pic #37; that's where you can set the Installer service to Automatic, although it is always set to Manual by default, meaning it will only start when needed.Edit: found this Edited April 1, 2011 by Sp0iLedBrAt
Ponch Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 I guess the Dell cd is highly non standard and the part that installs all your stuff is overlooked by nLite. We had a few strange cases with Dell CDs.
