recovering missing language after nlite install

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have made a custom install from my original XP CD using Nlite, just to discover later on that my alternate language (Hebrew) is missing from the input language drop menu.

I have tried all the traditional MUI install options from the Regional and Language menu, but nothing... Hebrew will not show as an option.

I suspect that by mistake I have eliminated the Hebrew option from the custom install. At this point I do not have the Nlite custom file any longer, but my custom XP install

is running flawlessly (except to the missing alt. language) so I was wondering if there is a way to embed the missing Hebrew language into my XP somehow, without the need to run the Nlite program again.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much!

Zioni

Thanks for your input. I have watched these tutorials, the guy is way too vague (very knowledgeable though), and although I do have somewhat good understanding, my knowledge does not go as deep, I just lost him at some point... I thought they may be a way do just to drop the missing file/s into the installed XP I was trying to avoid running the Nlite again.

That's basically what it figures out for you....the file you need to put back. BTW, I'm the one that made the video. What area do you want me to clarify for you?

I can tell you are very knowledgeable, but I have lost you when you got into the reg. entries etc. I guess it is due to my (limited then yours) understanding.

At first I thought it will be simple, just locate the missing files (as per Beyond Compare) then insert them into my XP (or something like that)

Once it got into the reg. entries I got lost... It seems to me very complex way just to recover one missing alt. language.

On the other hand, when I get boot time of 20 sec. I dont want to mess with it...tough choices here. Is there anyway I can

Dropbox you my XP iso so to assist me in recovering it. It seems that once you know your stuff, it take minuets.

Thanks again!

I guess so. My problem solving and understanding are up to reg. keys etc. I wonder at this point if despite the pain if it is not worth running Nlite all over, at least I am familiar with the steps, and aware of the pit falls.

Just post a screenshot of the reg differences and I'll help you add them back.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi again,

I was away for couple of days, never got to work on my missing language problem. If you are still up to helping me to resolve it I will make an attempt this weekend.

Let me know.

Thanks so much.

Zioni.

Super!

I have followed all of the steps from your tutorial part 1 up to min 11.43

but from some reason I do not see hive.inf at all, only nlite.inf

Is hives.inf must be there, or it is there only for your specific operation?

Thanks.

That may be because there are no registry changes other than what may be in nlite.inf.

Highlight both sides of nlite.inf, right click it and click open. Press the = / button if not already activated and post a screenshot of the differences. Also I find it weird that all the font show up as needed. Can you also check txtsetup.sif and dosnet.inf and see if it shows those files as a difference.

I just noticed something on your screenshot. intl.inf is a much bigger size. After looking at my intl.inf it appears that's where languages are stored. Copy intl.inf from i386_1 and place it in %windir%\inf. See if that doesn't bring the language back.
