listen to that one...

double clicking (or single clicking for people that configured that way) on any shortcut i make to the desktop, linking to a folder everywere in the hd, the floppy drive starts moaning as if the shortcut was linked to the floppy.

of course after the moaning stops, the original shortuct is normally executed.

not actually a problem, but it is quite annoying since i frequently use shortcuts.

any suugestions? :)

yes, i have norton2002

i went to Auto-Protect--> Advanced and unchecked

"scan all removable media for boot viruses every time is mounted".

although i am not sure if this has to do anything with my problem.

anyway, nothing happened. the floppy drive continues to moan.

Just a thought.Have you recently installed or accessed anything from a floppy disk?

Look in the recently opened documents list on the start menu.

If there are any files listed there that were on floppy delete them.

Right click the start button and select properties.Put a dot next to "start menu" (If there isn't already one there) and click the customize button. On the advanced tab click the "clear list"button.Close the boxes.

Does that help?

I am not a computer expert; but, I had that problem once. Every time I did something on the computer, I forget what, it made this horrble grinding sound of checking the floppy when no floppies were in there.

I can be a little help:

somebody told me to go into DOS or Safe Mode, I forget which, and there is a setting in there that you can turn off that gives you the choice of having the computer check the floppy at certain times or not.

I am sorry, that is all I can remember, but if you play around with that, it may solve your problem.
