MS-Office Outlook Time Zone Data Update Tool

I'm hoping that the Microsoft Office Outlook Time Zone Data Update Tool will fix a problem that I'm seeing in Outlook 2000 where all the e-mails I'm receiving (even ones I send to myself) are displayed with a receive time that's one hour in the future.

It's an MSI file, but it refuses to run on my win-98 system. Any advice?

Unpack it with 7-Zip and run it yourself, instead of relying in MSIEXEC.

I tried winzip and winrar and neither knows how to unpack msi files (or at least this msi file) so now I know that 7-zip does.

After unpacking it with 7-zip (and after unpacking the single .cab file) I have no idea what do to do with the contents. There's no "setup.exe" or "install.exe" or a readme file. There's a few executables but they don't run.

Could try modifying the MSI with Orca Msi editor...The latest version isn't compatible with 9x...here's text from an old post from MDGX to get a version that is compatible:

1. Install Orca 2.0.3790:

download this CAB [3 MB, right-click to save] = part of Installer SDK 2.0:

Extract Orca_Msi.FD66E721_5AA0_41BC_AA26_1EC8F7FA1175 from CAB -> rename it to orca.msi -> double-click on orca.msi to install Orca -> run orca.exe [usually installed under C:\Program Files\Orca].

2. Install Orca 1.10.1124:

download Installer SDK 1.1:

file [7.92 MB, right-click to save]:

Install IntelSDK.msi -> look under the \Tools subfolder -> should see orca.msi -> double-click on orca.msi to install Orca -> run orca.exe [usually installed under C:\Program Files\Orca9x].

3. Orca 3.1 [part of Installer SDK 3.1] does *not* work with 9x OSes:

Note, it didn't work, but might get you started. Obviously if something goes awry, don't blame anyone but yourself!

I have oeupdate.exe (from MDIE6CU30E) dated Oct 16, 2003. I have no idea why I have that file, what it does, or if I've ever run it on this system.

I found that old post, and I installed Orca 2.0.3790. The post mentions that step 2 (or point 2?) is to install Orca 1.10.1124. I did not do that (why do I need two versions of Orca?)

Using Orca 2.0.3790 I opened TZMove.msi. That file is 8.7 mb in size. After opening the file, I made no changes, and simply told orca to save the file to some other file name (tz.msi). The size of tz.msi is 1.1 mb. I don't think that's supposed to happen. Comments?

I apologize...MDGx was explaining how to get several versions...just follow the directions for version 2.0.3790. I see you did.

No I don't think it should have made that big of a difference.

If you extact the msi you created with 7-zip you'll notice that the cab file is missing....hmmm. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of Orca and MSI files can help here.

Downloaded the package, 7-unzipped it, and used "InstEd It!" to make the change. Everything "appears" to be ok, but (again the "but")...

Try it and see if it works (Google on the application I mention). At your own risk, naturally.

(Note: InstEd It! only works on Win2k and above, so...)

(Note2: change "Tools->Options->Save Options" to "Don't Change")

What did you modify, the lauch condition? I just managed it with Easy MSI editor..they claim 9x compatibility...I'm on XP, so can't verify:

Under InstallExecuteSequence there's several entries that end with:

AND (NOT Version9X)

You may need to check those out and remove as necessary too.
