the issue tracker is the place where you can create Work Items, if you find a bug, issue

I know what an issue tracker is. ;)

It was just some sarcasm.

For future memory:

History:

22/10/2009? tool released officially on http://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool

6/11/2009 possible finding about "code reuse" published here: http://www.withinwindows.com/2009/11/06/mi...oft-store-tool/

9/11/2009 tool retired from http://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool due to suspect of infringing Open Source Agreement (code "borrowed")

9/11/2009 page http://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool COMPLETELY removed without leaving a notice

9/11/2009 page http://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool redirecting to: http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Windo...-7/category/102

13/11/2009 Microsoft INDIRECTLY acknowledges the infringement, blaming "third party" on this relatively obscure/misknown page:

http://port25.technet.com/archive/2009/11/...nload-tool.aspx stating within a week a re-issue of the tool under GPL and apologizing for the inconvenience

9/12/2009 Utility and code is released on http://wudt.codeplex.com/ with NO reference to what happened before in

Documentation: http://wudt.codeplex.com/documentation

or

Discussions: http://wudt.codeplex.com/Thread/List.aspx

or

Issue Tracker: http://wudt.codeplex.com/WorkItem/List.aspx

or Release: http://wudt.codeplex.com/Release/ProjectRe...ReleaseId=37074

10/12/2009? page http://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool is back with NO notice of what happened

Please also note that if you download the EXECUTABLE from here:

http://wudt.codeplex.com/Release/ProjectRe...ReleaseId=37074

you have to agree to it's GPL license before downloading, while if you get it from here:

http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft/Windo...-7/category/102

you don't.

BOTH executables (actually they are differently named but have same MD5:

af911be206423bf440ea9d4df075a632 Windows7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool-Installer-en-US.exe

af911be206423bf440ea9d4df075a632 Windows7-USB-DVD-tool.exe

If you Run the executable you NEED NOT to agree to the GPL license. (I tried to just start the app - but not have installed the IMAPI 2.0 on this machine, so it is possible that the request comes later)

This tool is nice, but 2 things:

1. It will reject altered iso files, though some people claim otherwise.

2. It's completely unnecessary.

Here's how to do it manually without some complicated drawn out method:

1. Format your flashdrive in NTFS using whatever method you prefer. cmd prompt or Drive Management will do nicely.

2. Open an elevated cmd prompt in the \boot folder of your iso or share.

3. Type: bootsect.exe /NT60 H: (where H: is the drive letter of your flashdrive, this step makes it bootable).

4. Copy the entire contents of the iso or share to your flashdrive.

That's it. It doesn't get any easier for a manual method.

That's the right way to do it !

Thanks for the info. I've been using WAIK to put Windows 7 on USB drive. This tool just make it easier. I left the USB drive as FAT32, after pointed to the ISO, the utility automatic eased and formatted the drive to NTFS and copy the ISO. I downloaded the app from Cnet download by the way.
