SP2 vs. SP3

all you XP folks better upgrade to XP SP3 before July 2010.

Microsoft is dropping ALL support for XP SP2 on July 13, 2010 as noted here.

after that date, any XP security updates created will require just SP3.

all my xp machines have sp3 on them and they work well

Never had an issue related to installing or running SP3 on new installs or old installs. If you've tweaked or hacked your system you'll want to avoid updating to it of find the SP3 equivelents of your tweaks and hacks.

Never had any problems with SP3, its just the new SP2
