spinjector Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Ok I'm confused on the Killbits issue with Hfslip 1.7.8. I've searched the forum but got nothing but a case of brain cramp from all the hits. What's the proper way to use WindowsXP-KB973346-x86-ENU.exe...? (if even?)Thanks.
Guest Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Are you confused about what killbit update is current? WindowsXP-KB973346-x86-ENU.exe is the current one.WindowsXP-KB953839-x86-ENU.exeWindowsXP-KB950760-x86-ENU.exeWindowsXP-KB956391-x86-ENU.exeWindowsXP-KB960715-x86-ENU.exe andWindowsXP-KB969898-x86-ENU.exe are old.Delete if you have them
spinjector Posted July 30, 2009 Author Posted July 30, 2009 No I'm sorry... I had my head in it all day, I guess I figured someone would understand me. I can't get the WindowsXP-KB973346-x86-ENU.exe Killbits update to slipstream. My Hfslip is 99.9% working perfectly now; as of today, the Microsoft Update page says the Killbits is the only update I have left to do on my test runs in vBox. I have it in the HF\ folder, but it's just not working, so I thought maybe it needed to go somewhere else.I saw a number of posts that indicated that Hfslip does not handle the internal structure of the Kilbits update, and a couple of people had workarounds, but they seemed a little outside of Hfslip's general order of things. So I figured I'd just ask...
tommyp Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Once in a while there is some noise about the killbit hotfix not slipstreaming. That is remedied by a few lines of code in the script. So far, I have not seen any complaints on this, well probably since earlier this year. If you still cannot get the kill bit to slipstream, install the hotfix manually BUT do a regshot before and after and post the results. The regshot will show which entry needs to be added into the registry to make WU happy.
spinjector Posted July 31, 2009 Author Posted July 31, 2009 (edited) Ok here is the RegShot info, and my HFslip.log just for reference.I took the shots as tightly around the Microsoft Update process as I could get them.Edit: Hmmm I was just reading your earlier post again, and realized I didn't catch it right the first time. I used MU to install the killbits update... Is that ok, or should I do it again with just the full WindowsXP-KB973346-x86-ENU.exe file..?HFSLIP.TXTkillbits_dif.txt Edited July 31, 2009 by spinjector
tommyp Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 In your HF folder, is your killbit hotfix installer OK or corrupted? The regshot you provided doesn't really help if you installed via WU. You'll need to do a clean install, do a regshot, install the activekillbit file exe file, do a second regshot and then compare. BTW, you're the only guy having an issue with this.... Did you bump your hotfix list against what is posted in the stickied section? Before you ask, I will not check for you.
spinjector Posted August 1, 2009 Author Posted August 1, 2009 In your HF folder, is your killbit hotfix installer OK or corrupted? Not sure about file damage, but I'll DL it again just in case. You'll need to do a clean install, do a regshot, install the activekillbit exe file. Will do.You're the only guy having an issue with this.I'm actually glad to hear that. It means there's a problem with my gig somewhere and I just have to figure it out.Did you bump your hotfix list against what is posted in the stickied section?Yes, after you pointed me to the list on the sticky thread. I found that on my own without the list, I had made my way to almost exactly what I was supposed to have. I carefully checked what I had item-by-item against the list, and there were only a couple of discrepancies which I resolved. Before you ask, I will not check for you.I wouldn't ask. You've got better things to do.
Geej Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 spinjector, may i suggest u consider using a later version of HFSLIP, ie. maybe hfslip-1.7.9_beta_m.cmdIf I remember correctly, hfslip-1.7.8 has some killbit issue that was later addressed in later version. (or I'm wrong?)To know what registry KB973346 added, I extracted it's inf. U can take a look w/o using regshot. Look under [Product.Add.Reg] section of the inf. update_SP3QFE.infAlso using hfslip-1.7.9_beta_m.cmd to slipstream, I enclosed my own HFSLIP.LOG (obliviously it won't be the same for every user) in one of my test build. So far, I did not get the WU prompt for KB973346. (I did not check against the stickied section, so might have possibe obsolete item here and there in HF folder. But generally okay)HFSLIP has many folders, as you get more familiar with it, make full use of it For this log, it is done with IE8, WMP11,SP3,Dotnet2Framework at T13, Dotnet 3 & 3.5Framework via RunonceEx via autoit folder, JRE plus many registry tweaks u can think of! And some applications etcJust to give an idea how far HFSLIP can stretch ... HFSLIP.zip
