Gin210 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Hi. I am hoping someone can help me fix this. When I boot up my computer, it takes me to the login screen, I click on my user, and it flashes the wallpaper for a second, then goes back to the login screen and tells me that it's logging off. The first thing I tried to do was to log into safe mode. I tried logging in both as Administrator, and my regular user, and it goes through the same process described above.I found this thread:http://www.msfn.org/board/Windows-Xp-Login...lem-t42529.htmlI followed the directions in post #4 there. When I try the REG ADD command, it tells me that the command is not recognized. So I moved on to the next suggestion for copying the file. I go through all of those steps just fine, and it tells me 1 file has been copied. Then I remove the CD and reboot, only to have the same problem at the login screen that I had to start with. Are there any other suggestions of what I may do to correct this? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.Jen
Tripredacus Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 What operating system are you using? Since those were instructions for XP, it is possible the OS you are using has different commands or even registry keys to work with.
Gin210 Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 (edited) It is WindowsXP Home Edition.(I just now realized that I posted this in the wrong OS forums... my bad, I haven't had enough coffee this morning lol) Edited April 8, 2009 by Gin210
Tripredacus Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I've only had moderate success with that method. The reason is likely because it isn't the only reason this behaviour happens. Its funny about this thread really. I removed a fake antivirus program from a friends computer (same OS as yours) and it started doing the same thing. I ended up doing a system recovery on it instead.
submix8c Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 (not to waste a post but...)Agreed. It seems that some folks have fallen for Fake Emails and Pop-Ups lately.System Restores, Recoveries, Repair Installs, (Upgrade) Reinstalls, and complete cleaning via connecting to ther PC's seems to be the only way to get rid of some of these.Seems Conficker has cut loose a lot of bad people using scare tactics.
