USB Mass Storage, Data is invalid

I can't seem to install my 500GB external HD, and i have SP2 install. There are 2 folders, with a paper looking thing going from one folder to the other, and as soon as the paper go the other folder, it says data is invalid.

Is there a fix for this?

it represent a file being transferred from one folder to an other. When do you get that ? As soon as you plug it in ? What hardware do you use (this is the Hardware forum). Is it that 600MHz PC in your signature did you upgrade it from 2k to XP ? If yes was your external drive working before on the same PC ?

I would also scan the drive for malware, looks more like some script that is executed on hookup.
