temp68 Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 hiI want to have a network a share internet between two computers. I plugged a cross over cable between them. I've set IPs for "Local Area Connetction" connection for both computers. I've choosen same workgroup name for them and names. but one of chomputers says th cable in unplugged. what is the problem?thank you so much for reading my question and answering it
submix8c Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Sounds like this may not be a "true" crossover cable. A standard "straight-through" cable has a one-for-one matchup on the pins on both ends. A crossover cable has certain pins "reversed" (e.g. SEND on one end and RECEIVE on the other).Double-check to ensure that it is indeed a Crossover Cable. This can be checked with an OHM-meter (using as a Continuity Check, e.g. Zero Resistance between the Pins on the ends in question). Here ya go for pictures and a simple explanation -http://www.danpex.com/faqs/cat5-conf.htmHTH
Sysdll Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Have you tried running network setup wizard on both computers? Also try cold booting both computers and let them stand for about 5 minutes.
g-force Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 I agree to "submix8c". If the status of both NIC stay at "Not Coneccted", it`s not a problem of the configuration of the Network - it`s the physical connection. No Crosover-Cable, I think.
Ponch Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Are you sure it's not the WiFi that says "not connected" ?+Once you solve that cable problem, I think ICS needs automatic IP on the "receiving" computer.
