submix8c Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 (edited) While google-searching on the corrsponding LG DVD/CD-ROM (not burner), I stumbled across an indication that these burners tend to fail. Do a Google on you model "GSA-H54N" and you might get a decent answer - unless someone else has one and has exprienced this. Also, you might try (for funsies), going into Safe Mode (F8 at bootup), going into the Device Manager, selecting "View Hidden" (at the top), remove all CD/DVD devices (the will be found again upon normal reboot), and remove all "Devices" (somewhere toward the bottom - these are the current and previous Mounts - previous/nonexistent being the light-gray ones). Warning! Removing ALL devices will remove ALL drive letters assigned. They will/should be re-assigned upon normal reboot. So make note of any drive-letters originally assigned and re-assign them in Disk Management. If the are NOT showing up in Disk Management (after removing devices/rebooting), just ADD them/assign the drive letters there. You may have to reboot again for the changes to take effect.A final note that sometimes the built-in XP Burning Service interrupts the installed burning software. Stop and Disable it ("IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service"); it's not needed or wanted with Burning Software.edit - forgot to ask - did it EVER burn/erase? Edited February 9, 2009 by submix8c

submix8c Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 (edited) Huh... try this and be very careful!http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben...p;x=12&y=13Something about Upper/Lower Filters registry entries.Check those entries first before trying my suggestions above. And also note that the Service should be stopped/disabled as I said above; and that more than one burning software might cause a problem (conflicts).I'll help look around some more. And cut Kel some slack... I've noted that Moderators, Administrators, and Supervisors have been a little busy tracking and banning some very baaaad people. Makes them kranky I think. edit - (see below; well above is true...)Kel asks a good question about the Firmware. Older firmware sometimes will not burn to newer Media (CD's DVD's etc). Also note that some folks have found their Readers/Burners set to Cable Select on the jumpers (in back of the device) and this could cause a problem. Check them and ensure the jumpers are set correctly (not Cable Select). Final Note - setting DMA in Device Manager usually works best.Addendum - Recognized by the Burner Software as a Burner? submix8c Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 (edited) Hmmm - FWIW, so far I've found the firmware v1.02 at http://au.lgservice.com/You have to use the "Download Drivers", ask for "DVD-ROM(writer)" and enter "GSA-H54N". If you already have this firmware, then ???Also, note what I said about multiple burning software, the DMA settings, etc. Please try burning again and tell us what the error message is. The solution may be quite simple depending on the error. Nero will write a log. If you post it, put it in a CodeBox (or an attachment) so it won't go on-and-on. This may help...p.s. also unnecessary to give complete quote in your posts. edit to "just the pertinent". saves space...edit - Check! see below for newer firmware... submix8c Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Holy @#$% - 48x? Try slowing down the write speed (maybe 16x) and use a fresh disk (CD-R is what you were using) then report back. Some other suspicious errors were also showing. And please, stop using mixed upper/lower-case sentences. It hurts my eyes.
