.AVI file plays audio only

Featured Replies

I downloaded and installed the Vista Codec Package from Major Geeks.

I tried to play a small (7420 KB) .AVI file that I received from my son. It was produced with a video camera and sent via SKYPE.

The result was the same as before I downloaded the Codec. I got sound but no video.

I get the same results with WinAmp.

My WMP plays .WMV files OK

I have Win Vista Ultimate 64 bit and WMP version 11.

Do you have a suggestion for me?

Thanks

Quick Google search shows:

It turns out it was only divx AVI files that I had a problem with. Fixed by downloading the codec here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/The_Codecs.htm

You might also try the other free codecs available here: http://www.free-codecs.com

However, just blindly installing a bunch of Codecs can screw your system up

the codecs of video file may be broken n if so check it by playing with VLC player as above said....or you may convert the video file in to another format using any good video convertor then try to play it and i think it will paly well as this trick works for me many times...........

Hi,

I followed the steps in the "Elegant Way" at the After Dawn site as recommended by Kotuku - Thank You!

I used the AVICodec tool:

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_so...rs/avicodec.cfm

It said that I needed this codec: Xvid Codec V1.2.1 06 Dec. 08

I downloaded it from:

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_so...cs_and_filters/

Now I can use either Win Media Player or Win Media Center.

Thanks to all who responded to my question.

Regards

Frank G C
