Bison1 Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 Ever since I upgrade Firefox to 3.0.5 it has consistently crashed upon or shortly after opening. Then I installed Google Chrome and it behaves the same way--crashes shortly after opening or upon opening. I run AVG Anti-Virus with a FortiClient firewall. IE runs fine. System is an IBM ThinkPad R51 laptop running XP Pro SP2. Yzöwl Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 My first thought, without looking at the individual entries in your log is that you need to do some serious housework on your PC. You've got far too much unnecessary stuff auto-running and wasting resources and if you prune those down you may just find that you've removed a potential conflict.Incidentally since portable versions of Chrome and Firefox are available you could use either of those as a test to see if something is blocking the executables.
kecowakmanja Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 have you tried to reinstall the firefox / chrome?
ggonmar Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 hey there,I am on the exact same spot as Bison1... upgraded to Firefox 3.0.5b, started crashing, installed Chrome, shuts down inmediately, IE works fine, running AVG and found no errors, even run MalwareBytes and found nothing neither. HijackThis gives me a huge log also, due to all the processes that Vista starts by itself + the processes needed for tabletPC control. If needed, I can post the log here, but will be pretty close to Bison1 for sure...Yes I tried to reinstall both FF and Chrome with no results.Running Vista Home Premium on HP tx2640 tabletPC.anyone could help us???thanks in advance,
DigeratiPrime Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Current version of Firefox is 3.0.8. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/firefox.htmlSince Chrome is also crashing you probably have some weird configuration or something interfering with those processes. You can post the HiJackThis log with "codebox" bbcode tags if you want to keep the your post short. You can also try running the browsers without addons, or booting Windows into Safe Mode.A crash dump would reveal more specific information though.http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb...28VS.85%29.aspx
DaremoS Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I've spent 10 days trying to solve this issue which is produced by the module watchdog of AVG.Unfortunately this is main module of AVG, which is in conflict with both browser (chrome and firefox)I haven't done further investigation why this is so.I just stop it and everything works fine. There must be another reason as I have AVG running in other computer and works fine with AVG.
Tripredacus Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Chrome is notorious for not working if there is malware on the computer. Based solely on this list, your computer may be warring with itself. It appears you have at least 4 anti-virus programs installed, including:AVGSymantec Security Center (could be AV or Firewall)Fortinet (could be AV or Firewall)Authentium
nathan_s Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Decide which AV sftware you are willing to use and stick with, also all thos toolbars and add-ons - keep onyl what's necessary
Tripredacus Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Decide which AV sftware you are willing to use and stick with, also all thos toolbars and add-ons - keep onyl what's necessaryGood point about the toolbars. People still seem to think you need Google and Yahoo and Ask toolbars (although they probably came with the OEM load) but you really don't. Most people use those search engine toolbars to have a quick search box on their toolbar, but Firefox and Chrome (and even IE) support installable search boxes by default. Its that part right next to the address bar for the most part.
