shaheen Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 I am making an nLite CD from my laptop,s OEM XP Home windows.I am confused about service packs slipstreaming. nLite did not detect any installed service pack. It just detects XP Home. I want to integrate service packs 1, 2 and 3. Do I need them to intergrate all one by one?nLite says that if u integrate service pack 2, you don,t need service pack 1. How it can be correct while MS insists that service pack 1 must be installed before installing service pack 2.Similarly if i slipstream service pack 3, I wil not need to slipstream service pack 2. That is also not understandable as MS insists that service pack 2 must be installed before installing service pack 3.Can anyone make it clear for me?Thanks
ricktendo Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 No you dont have to slipstream sp1 or sp2 for sp3, I think only if you install sp3 on your already installed system you need sp1 or something
johnhc Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 shaheen, ricktendo64 is correct, you need only the latest SP you want to integrate. If your CD has no SP, then you need only SP3. On a running system you do need to install SP1 before SP3. Be sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders and do all you work in one nLite session. Please attach (no paste) your Last Session.ini. Enjoy, John.
Ponch Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 MS insists that service pack 1 must be installed before installing service pack 2....MS insists that service pack 2 must be installed before installing service pack 3.I don't know wether you've heard that or you think you read it somewhere but it's incorrect.See answers above on difference between slipstreaming a SP to an installation disc and updaIt's not even clear if SP1 must be "installed" before SP3 as some page says so on MS's site but some others don't.
Ponch Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 (edited) MS insists that service pack 1 must be installed before installing service pack 2....MS insists that service pack 2 must be installed before installing service pack 3.I don't know wether you've heard that or you think you read it somewhere but it's incorrect.See answers above on difference between slipstreaming a SP to an installation disc and updating a running system to a given SP.It's not even clear if SP1 must be "installed" before SP3 as some page says so on MS's site but some others don't. "Trusting" people on this one is not very scientific either. I guess somebody will come with a real answer sometime. Edited December 26, 2008 by Ponch
