photos burned on xp can not be seen with vista

I burned a DVD-R (photos) on my XP Desktop (XPS 400) and tried to open it in

Vista on my E6500 laptop. No dice. In "My Computer" it showed a folder

with nothing in it!

When I burned it on my desktop I did the quick format (sonic DLA asked to format), added the files

and then Finalized the disk. I tried it on a another laptop

(Dell) which is running XP and it had the photos.

DLA offers two levels of compatibility: On a basic level, a disc formatted by DLA can be read by just about any computer with DLA installed. In addition, DLA comes with a feature called "Make Compatible." This special formatting allows the disc to be read by virtually any Windows computer, even if DLA is not installed.

Note: while searching (and supported by system requirements) there are many users who complain that DLA does not work properly or at all on Vista. When you make your disc, try using the "Make Compatible" method to see if the Vista can read that.

Also while searching, I also had it in my head that there is some sort of patch or wrapper you could install (although this memory is from NT days and DirectCD) to read packet-written CDs on other OSes. I can't get myself to remember an example of what this program was called.

In the really old times there were "self-standing" apps made by Roxio or Ahead to allow accessing "packet written" CD/CDRW, if I am not mistaken, DLA is somewhat different, it is a sort of UDF filesystem implementation on CD/DVD for both writing and reading, some details are here:
