boomboommusic Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Hi everybody,I'm in the process of making a Dual Boot XPx32 / 2K3x64.I'm able to install XP and 2K3 separately.I'm able to install XP and 2K3 on one disk with 2 partition. For that I use 2 disk.Disk 0 (on a PERC controller) | 1 partition (E:)Disk 1 (on a NVidia Controller) | 2 partition (C: and D:)Because of the bandwith on the PERC controller, I have decided to put "Documents and Settings", "Programs Files" and "Common Program Files" on E:Before launch winnt32 installation for XP I reassign the drive letter with diskpart as I want, so all is ok.Then the txtsetup start and the Disk 0 become the "D" Drive and partition 2 of the disk 1 become the "E" Drive. So my profile and programs files redirection are send to the bad disk...Do you know a way to solve that problem ?Thx to take time to read me BBM
Atheros Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 only way i can see of doing it is to reverse your partition order. so disk 0 = C: & D:and disk 1 = E:windows will address disk 0 before any other partition unless one is called C: so by moving the E: partition to disk 1 it should stop re adressing it.but i see there will still likely be a problem with the disk addressing on the other OS. so what i would do is [Disk 0] [Partition 1] [C:] Windows install 1 [Partition 2] [D:] Windows install 2[Disk 1] [Partition 1] [E:] documents & settingsthis should keep E as E and not reassign it. however when you switch to the other install i belive C: will become D: and D: will become C:
boomboommusic Posted October 2, 2008 Author Posted October 2, 2008 (edited) Hello Atheros,Thanks for your help.I have thought about that too and it must be the next step.I just did it and unfortunately I have not seen any possibility to put my Disk 0 as Disk 1 or Disk 1 as Disk 0 for the moment :/I will continue to looking for this way.-= I have seen many information on the web about a a migrate.inf file located in the boot folders just before the txtsetup during the installation of NT4...but this files doesn't exist anymore....but maybe anybody know an alternative ???? -=I have read about a registry hack, that could be work....but I prefer an elegant way to do it, cause until know I did everything without touching the media source...Pleaze everybody help me to find my way And thx again Atheros for your time Edited October 7, 2008 by boomboommusic
os2fan2 Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 You can change the letters if you break the setup after text mode install.See this: http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=5480You can change the install letter on any drive, as long as ye get the correct diskette.
jaclaz Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 ...or using migrate.inf......or modifying setupreg.hiv...jaclaz
