zammer Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 (edited) Here's a question that'll probably give away my experience level...I want to create a simple installation of WinXP SP3 and all the hot-fixes and updates I need... The forum has been great in helping me do this but there's one issues I'm having trouble with:For simplicity's sake I want to include a directory on this CD that contains .Net and the required updates. Here's what I have so far:MS.Net.Fx.1.1.Redist.exe 24,265,736MS.Net.Fx.1.1.SP1..exe 10,703,680MS.Net.Fx.2.1.Redist.exe 24,758,792MS.Net.Fx.3.0.Redist.exe 52,770,576MS.Net.Fx.3.1.Redist.exe 2,585,872MS.Net.Fx.3.5.Redist.msi 34,939,904MS.Net.Fx.4.5.Redist.exe 2,869,264Now the rub, I found a .Net 3.5 installer (dotnetfx35.exe that's 206,692,864 bytes) - does this installer include all the previous .Net packages ??? What should I include on the CD??I don't know if I'm making myself clear enough? Edited August 18, 2008 by zammer
Tarun Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Yes. The latest as of this post is 3.5 SP1 and it contains all previous versions.
zammer Posted August 18, 2008 Author Posted August 18, 2008 If that's the case then I don't need to include the other redistributables on my cd... Is there a 3.5 redistributable that does not include the x64 architecture... 200 MB is quite a big package even if it does include .Net 1 to 3.5 is it not?
spacesurfer Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Yes. The latest as of this post is 3.5 SP1 and it contains all previous versions. And I also assume that .Net 2.0 would have included all the previous ones when it came out, right? I, however, had a problem installing Sony Sound Forge 8.0, which required .Net 1.0. I had to install .Net 1.0, then upgrade to 2.0.Is there a way for these apps to recognize that .Net is installed after installing the latest without having to install all the ones in between?
sam13484 Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 (edited) I've always understood that 3.5 does not include previous versions, such as 1.0, 1.1, 2.0 etc, and that some applications need those earlier versions installed to run. Can someone confirm that 3.5 SP1 is really cumulative and includes everything that preceeded it?Where did you get "MS.Net.Fx.4.5.Redist.exe"? I've never even heard of 4.5. With 3.5 SP1 being the latest, I wonder what 4.5 is? Edited August 18, 2008 by sam13484
zammer Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 Where did you get "MS.Net.Fx.4.5.Redist.exe"? I've never even heard of 4.5. With 3.5 SP1 being the latest, I wonder what 4.5 is?Ahem It's a mistake on my part - it's windows installer 4.5 which I mislabelled .net 4.5
zammer Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 OK, so I think I've got some of it figured out....NET Frameworks 1.1, 1.1SP1, 2SP1 are full downloads.NET Framework 3 and 3.5 from the general MSDN and windows update site are bootstrappers (installs, checks config, and then downloads what's needed).Microsoft Dot Net Framework 3.0 Bootstrapper 2.8 MBhttp://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=10CC340B-F857-4A14-83F5-25634C3BF043&displaylang=enMicrosoft Dot Net Framework 3.0 SP1 is a full downloadMicrosoft Dot Net Framework 3.0 Redistributable 50.3 MB - Direct Linkhttp://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=70848Microsoft Dot Net Framework 3.5 Bootstrapper 2.7 MBhttp://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=enMicrosoft Dot Net Framework 3.5 Redistributable 33.3 MBhttp://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e3821449-3c6b-42f1-9fd9-0041345b3385&DisplayLang=enMicrosoft Dot Net Framework 3.5 Full Package 197 MB Direct Linkhttp://download.microsoft.com/download/6/0/f/60fc5854-3cb8-4892-b6db-bd4f42510f28/dotnetfx35.exeIt's the last one - the 197 MB file that looks to contain all preceding Dot NET versions... It also looks like it contains the x64 architecture files as well - I'm just not too sure???
Kelsenellenelvian Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 (edited) The full one which is actually now 231 megs contans ALL but 1.0, 1,1 and the service packs for those 2.So you get:3.5 sp13.52.12.0and a Sh*tload of other fixes for all of those....yes they do contain ALL of the 86x (32bit) and 64x files. But there is hope if you think that is too much!Go to here --> http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5657 this Includes .net 1.1 sp1, 2 sp2, 3 sp2, and 3.5 sp1 all patches applied.Weighs in at only @50 megs and is for 32bit only. Simply extract the installer from the addon. It will be in the svcpack folder.Link to the full 231 meg 3.5sp1 package if you want it --> http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0.../dotnetfx35.exe Edited August 19, 2008 by Kelsenellenelvian
zammer Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 Kelsenellenelvian, thanks for the insight...I downloaded and installed the netfxAIO.exe on a test machine... Once the installation completed I ran a .net check and got the following...Why is there no indication of .Net 3.5 being installed???
zammer Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 Well, it turns out the version-check utility only checks up to version 3.0Add/Remove Dialogue Box indicates that all the relevant .Net applications have been installed!!!Woohoo !!!
spacesurfer Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Go to here --> http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5657 this Includes .net 1.1 sp1, 2 sp2, 3 sp2, and 3.5 sp1 all patches applied.Thanks. Downloaded, integrated with nlite and works. No errors when installing Sound Forge 8.0d on virtual machine. :-)
TranceEnergy Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 (edited) Making your own .dot Net 3.5 with SP1 (also contains newer xml6sp1 then on MS own website too infact((so dont integrate that already if you do) at a 50% reduced space is easy, if you are one who dont need ia64 files (itanium x64 or whats it name)I use xp x64, not vista, XP 64bit edition with sp2 and 140+hotfixes and software. Now since i deleted , ooops, the orignal .dot net 3.5sp1 after i made a winrar silent install of it, i cant tell you names of those folders you need to delete, but this is the files left when you have deleted the intel itanium parts and the MSP something it was folder from the archive.A rule of thumb, when you run the installer normally, it will say 117 (example)mb for download, well thats the files actually going into install, the total size of everything you need to install..Now i only spent like 2 minutes on this, so maybe more files can be deleted, but for first try its pretty good.Original size was like 237mb, and after making it into winrar, the installer takes 106mb. Even better, the installer will extract the files, and after install is finished, it will delete its extracted temporary files.you can probably use 7-zip but im more of a winrar guy, i just like it better atm (7-zip once took over .exe filetype completely, not good memories ))Select Solid archive+max compression, goto SFX options, find Temp, ahr screw it, check mspaint picture =)--------------------------------this line marks start of comment field in winrar; The comment below contains SFX script commandsSetup=dotNetFx35setup.exe /qb /norestart /lang:ENUTempModeSilent=1Overwrite=1----------------------------..and this one means it has ended already.my filestructure after removing Intel x64 files and vista hotfixes.Net35sp1\dotNetFx35setup.exeNet35sp1\dotNetFX20\ASPNET.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX20\ASPNET_64.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX20\clr.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX20\clr_64.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX20\crt.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX20\crt_64.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX20\dw.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX20\dw_64.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX20\Netfx20a_x64.msiNet35sp1\dotNetFX20\Netfx20a_x86.msiNet35sp1\dotNetFX20\NetFX_CA.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX20\NetFX_Core.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX20\NetFX_Core_64.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX20\NetFX_Other.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX20\NetFX_Other_64.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX20\prexp.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX20\winforms.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX20\winforms_64.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\Netfx30a_x64.msiNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\Netfx30a_x86.msiNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\RGB9RAST_x64.msiNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\RGB9RAST_x86.msiNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\WCF.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\WCF_64.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\WCS.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\WCS_64.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\WF.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\WF_32.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\WF_64.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\WIC_x64_enu.exeNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\WIC_x86_enu.exeNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\WPF1.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\WPF1_64.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\WPF2.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\WPF2_32.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\WPF2_64.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\WPF_Other.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\WPF_Other_32.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\WPF_Other_64.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\x64Net35sp1\dotNetFX30\x86Net35sp1\dotNetFX30\XPS.mspNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\XPSEPSC-amd64-en-US.exeNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\XPSEPSC-x86-en-US.exeNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\x64\msxml6.msiNet35sp1\dotNetFX30\x86\msxml6.msiNet35sp1\dotNetFX35\x64Net35sp1\dotNetFX35\x86Net35sp1\dotNetFX35\x64\netfx35_x64.exeNet35sp1\dotNetFX35\x86\netfx35_x86.exeNet35sp1\Tools\clwireg.exeNet35sp1\Tools\clwireg_x64.exe Edited August 23, 2008 by TranceEnergy
