ilko_t Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 Did you try the latest 1.0 beta7 version?
fryinghorse Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 (edited) evening everyone,i just learned about this great tool today and i thought, I'd try it on an old computer I have (no CD/DVD-drive installed).I created a bootable USB-Stick using v.1.0-b7 and it created the stick just fine.So when I was starting the computer, i went into Bios and selected the stick for first boot device. So far, so good.I get to the first and 2nd screen and select "first step of XP install" option.And then in the Command line screen all i get is "Error 8: Kernel must be started before Setup".Any help would be much appreciated Edited February 4, 2011 by fryinghorse

Find the relevant ones.
fryinghorse Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 here are the files, as requested...thx for the quick reply.stick-files.zip
ilko_t Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 That's very weird...Do you have a file usbdrive.tag in root of USB stick?What program did you use to extract the 7z file with the program?If you run the program, select only "test in QEMU", press GO, does the Setup start in the virtual machine?
ilko_t Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 ilko_t : it works .......thanksGood to know, thanks.And please, keep in mind this forum does not support requests about illegal software. Read forum rules.

ilko_t Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 Please start from USB again.When you see the menus press "c" on your keyboard. You will enter grub4dos command line.There enter:root ([press TAB key here]ls /BOOTWS/ [ENTER]ls /WINSETUP/[ENTER]What's the output?
fryinghorse Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 so I don't know if i did this right.I entered grub4dos like you said.I entered "root" and pressed TABI get "possible commands are: root rootnoverify" and a new command line.when I write "ls /bootws/", i get "1.lst 2.lst 3.lst 4.lst 5.lst 6.lst 7.lst 8.lst fd.lst"when I write "ls /winsetup/" I get "XPpSP3 XPpSP3.ISO"
ilko_t Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 Do root [space]([TAB]What's in [ ] are keys on the keyboard.Again, just in case:type rootpress space bartype (press TABWhat's the output?What about this one find /usbdrive.tag
fryinghorse Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 "find /usbdrive.tag" gives "hd(0,0)"I'm not sure about the first one. When I enter root [space] (I get Error 17: Cannot mount selected partitionIf you mean another key, then I'm not familiar with it (it seems to be a cross-over between / and ( though, but i don't know how to produce it).
ilko_t Posted February 5, 2011 Author Posted February 5, 2011 It's ( in italic font.Try:cat (hd0,0)/BOOTWS/2.lstDo you get the contents of the file printed?
fryinghorse Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Yeah, i get a list of stuffmap (hd0) (hd1)map (hd1) (hd0)map --hookls (0xff)/ && root (0xff)ls (0xff)/ && chainloader (0xff)//i386/setupldr.binls (0xff)/ :: rootnoverify (hd0)ls (0xff)/ :: chainloader (hd0)+1
ilko_t Posted February 5, 2011 Author Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) Let's try to manually load the setup and see where it breaks.Type one by one:find --set-root --ignore-cd /WINSETUP/XPpSP3.ISOroot (hd0,0)map /WINSETUP/XPpSP3.ISO (0xff) || map --mem /WINSETUP/XPpSP3.ISO (0xff)map (hd0) (hd1)map (hd1) (hd0)map --hookroot (0xff)chainloader (0xff)/I386/SETUPLDR.BINWould need the output after each command. Capital letters do matter in the last line.It's very interesting what's with this machine, since it works fine in QEMU Added:Before doing the above, please run this one only and tell me the result:calc *0x475 & 0xFF Edited February 5, 2011 by ilko_t
