Glenn9999 Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 (edited) I've tried Pidgin, Miranda and Trillian and have had problems with the latter two to the point that they were unusable in most circumstances. Pidgin's been fine for most part, but for the last two .1 versions (from 2.3) it crashes repeatedly on me. So, are there any good alternatives outside of those three? Or am I in for general IM suckitude (via these three programs or for running three or four separate IM clients)?Edit: Name change corrected. Edited July 1, 2008 by Glenn9999
Tarun Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 I've heard Digsby is supposed to be pretty good, but I don't care for it. Why? Because you have to create an account which you MUST log into before you can add/connect to your AIM/MSN/Yahoo/etc. They say it's so you can go to any computer and keep your prefs, added IM clients, and so forth. I wouldn't trust sending my passwords through their server which you have to be logged in to.
sevenalive Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Trillian Astra (which is alpha right now) is really good. All clients are supported. Video works for MSN and Yahoo, they need to more A/V work. Its getting better each build. You need to sign up for the alpha, they select testers so you won't immediately be able to test, it does save connection prefs and logins, but nothing to be worried about with them.
Idontwantspam Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 I use digsby. It does make me a tad uncomfortable... but oh well. I've heard good things about trillian astra, although the old trillian p***es me off. What's wrong with pidgin though?
kz26 Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Don't know if this fits your bill, but Meebo is a web-based multi-network IM client. It has a pretty slick interface:http://www.meebo.com
