Sophy Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 (edited) I hope someone can help me because right now I don't have any anti virus on my computer at all.It all started when I upgraded to AVG Anti-virus and Firewall 8.0. I had been running 7.5 for quite a long time with no problem.I have the paid versions of both Spyware Doctor and Spy Sweeper, although I only run one at a time. After upgrading to AVG 8.0 I disabled Spy Sweeper as their FAQ's say it's not compatible. And I started running Spyware Doctor.I was having various problems with AVG 8.0 opening and various things being in error state. I thought I had it pretty well straightened out and when I booted my computer tonight Spyware Doctor was all messed up so I had to quit using that and go back to Spy Sweeper.Anyway, I can't seem to get AVG off my computer completely, and the worst problem is that all of a sudden when I try to download something it's slower than molasses in January -- whereas before it was super fast. Right now I'm trying to download the free version of Avast, which is only 23.1 MB. Before tonight that would have downloaded in 30 seconds or less. Right now it's at 46% and it's been running for 10 minutes. Oh, and another thing, AVG won't even start. It isn't in my tool bar. I went into the program file and tried to start if from there and I get a sign that says TODO isn't working, or some such thing. I was going to try to redownload AVG and then uninstall, but it's like 66 MB and at the rate my computer is now downloading files it will take all night and then might not work the way things are going. My web site pages and such open fairly fast; it just seems to be the downloading deal and I think this has something to do with AVG because my daughter has been having the same problems ever since she updated to the 8.0. Her's started right away and mine just started tonight.I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium. I have 2GB Ram. I called my ISP tonight. The guy had me to several things but couldn't seem to find anything. He had me to a ping test and there were 50 packets sent and 50 received. Since last Saturday I have sent 6 emails to AVG technical and haven't received one answer yet. Please, please, can someone help? And the sooner the better. Thanks,NikiletNow I have a new development. I can't download Avast at all. When it gets right to the end I get an error message. It says: An unexpected error is preventing the operation. Make a note of this error code, which might be useful if you get additional help to resolve this problem. Error 0x800704C8. The requested operation can not be performed on a file with a user-mapped section open. Edited June 15, 2008 by geek
thydreamwalker Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Go to http://www.mdgx.com and try to find an uninstaller for AVG;or thier website,as it's a "Bxxxh!" to get off your system even reformat will not completely clean Harddrive..i usually use Active "kill disk" either Dos or Linux version to take Hdd to all 000000's and Clean-Wipes Avg or bad installs from my computer...*Yet i found an uninstaller at mdgx's site (just can't remember what it was? -long time =1year when i grew away from Resource User Appl's like AVG-which were hard on Memory especially!!!)AVG 7.5 can be of true benefit when "kids" use computer alot not necessarily older generations.....as we keep files cleaner and notice changes in system etc.
Sophy Posted June 14, 2008 Author Posted June 14, 2008 Since writing this I got AVG uninstalled using The Uninstaller, I got Avast downloaded and also Comodo Firewall and I'm back to using Spy Sweeper. The downloading part is still real slow and now I have a new problem. I get many "Page can't be found" on the Internet and I'm getting the error "connection to the server was reset." There is some kind of little bug in that Uninstaller program and it asks if I want to report it to the company. I click yes and it goes out but then I find a notice in my email that reads: <bugreport500@ursoftware.com>: host ursoftware.com[209.68.36.53] said: 554 <bugreport500@ursoftware.com>: Recipient address rejected: Access denied (in reply to RCPT TO command)I've searched online and read a lot of stuff I don't understand. There were many comments about it being a problem with server settings. Is that something I can check out or is that to do with my ISP directly? See how dumb I am!Any advice would be appreciated.Cindy
