njven
I have an old Gateway Essentials 500 machine that the video card is starting to go bad on. It still works fine otherwise, just not ready for normal use. Here are the specs:497MHz Intel Pentium III512MB RAM 20GB HD100Mb/s Ethernet cardI want to use it as a file/web server. I plan on using Apache as the web server so any OS should work. WinXP is extremely slow on it, so that, and newer operating systems are out of question. I was thinking on Windows 200 or Windows 2000 Server. I looked at the specs and Windows Server 2003 or Windows Home Server may work too. What would be the best on it? joe43wv
I seen online you can order a free trial ver. of Windows Home Server, just pay shipping and handling. If you want to go that route try that, that way you'll know if the new ver. will work for you, if not I say go for Windows 2000 server.
