leventpekcan Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Hello all,In my slipstreamed SP3 CD, I have SP1.cab, SP2.cab and SP3.cab files. It looks it is not necessary to keep SP1.cab and SP2.cab, as SP3.cab seems to have all the files these two have. Am I right and should I just delete these two from the image?Many thanks, Levent
Kelsenellenelvian Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Yes, but you CAN select in Nlite to merge them all with the main driver.cab file. That way you get all the newest ones and if you select max compresion you can save a bit of space. HAHAHH I did that with a test setup I was doing and I actually saved space over a just gold to xpsp3 disk.Still don't quite get it though.Oh and remember to select Delete duplicate files.
DJB Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 OK quick question here.Lets say I prepare a SP3 ISO using this method suggested (using nLite).Lets say later on if I wanted to use RyanVM's updates would it be a problem?
tap52384 Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 nLite is designed to only keep the newest files, so I suppose in theory, integrating RyanVM's updates wouldn't hurt SP3, but it would be interesting what you report after you try it...RyanVM has updates that are not necessarily Windows Updates, but other necessary updates from Microsoft that are needed for programming and other little known but important features available to Windows XP.
nuhi Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 DJB, merging CABs won't break addons/update pack support.Don't integrate SP2 update packs into the SP3.
BikinDutchman Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 I did an integration RTM -> SP2 -> SP3 and deleted SP2.cab.After that not the slightest problem .
boooggy Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 I did an integration RTM -> SP2 -> SP3 and deleted SP2.cab.After that not the slightest problem .sp2 its not needed if u have xp gold (rtm)....service packs are cumulative so sp3 includes sp2 and sp1.
