malcolmx Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Hello everyone.I read once that SP3 requires SP2 to be integrated, but from what I see, nlite integrates SP3 on fresh XP with no problem. So? Anybody can tell me, if I should inegrate SP2 first. (SP2 includes SP1, that's clear). But I am concerned about SP3, since it doesnt contain previous SPs..regards.
redxii Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 SP3 is cumulative to the previous service packs and there is no prerequisite service pack when integrating. The SP1 prerequisite is for upgrading a Windows installation. This question comes up a lot... is there a FAQ here somewhere?
cluberti Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Installation of SP3 on an installed/running system requires SP1 or SP2 to be installed. Slipstreaming/integrating SP3 into an XP source offline has no such restrictions.
djzn Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 You guys are forgetting something...Microsoft has added a new feature in SP3 where the user is not forced to enter the serial key during the installation, so he could complete the installation and enter the key only after the installation reboot. This feature is only available if you slipstream SP3 onto a SP1 or SP2 source. This feature won't be available when slipstreaming onto a Gold Source.Hope this gets spread.

This on SP3 slipstreamed into an SP2 disk.
Kelsenellenelvian Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Yeah you'll get a prompt but you should be able to just click next and go on.
MagicAndre1981 Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Retail and OEM versions should be able to install without key, but on a vlk version you must enter a key
