tipper Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I am trying to copy the contents of the C:\Documents and Settings folder of an XP computer to a USB disk drive to then transport those contents to a new Vista computer. However, I am getting all kinds of errors ( security, already in use, etc. ) when I drag and drop the folder onto the USB disk drive. The new computer has 500gb of disk, the old one only has 50gb of disk so I just want to copy everything "lock, stock and barrel" to an "Old Computer" folder on the new computer. Then the children will have access to the old computer's contents if they need something from that computer. How can I overcome this stumbling block? Thanks, Tipper.
Ponch Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Log on as "administrator" and copy only the profiles you need, not the system folders.
j7n Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Load the system from a boot CD and have all files accessible. In cases like this when you need to patch WinXP it's handy to have a second os like Win98 installed. But boot disks work fine too.
