Power User Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Hello, everyone !1st. sorry for my bad english...I have new project - Recovery System based on ghost-like (or ghost itself).main idea captured from IBM and other BIG firms...what we need for that?1st bootable CD-ROM (multi-boot with needed code (program)2nd hiden partition in HPA of HDD (with Image of working system and software for recovery)how it's work ?we format disk create partition's like we need... last partition (say about 2-3 giga) at end of HDD...save MBR to file...delete last partition from MBR... crop HDD with HPA - so hidden partition will be out-of-hdd...boot cd-rom with program...program unhide (temporary) HPA, read real MBR, add to it last partition from saved MBR... set last partition active and boot new MBR (from ram)recovery software recover 1st (system) partition, MBR and reboot...I need anyone can program MBR code in asssembler ?can anybody help ?(don't know if it right fot multi-boot cd-rom topiks)
IcemanND Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 If you have Ghost Solutions Suite 2.0 it includes everything you need to do this. The MBR to press a key and boot from the hidden partition and a read only version of ghost to read the image and apply it to the partition, no capture ability.
Power User Posted January 17, 2008 Author Posted January 17, 2008 Yes... but if anyone try setup windows - boot from Windows Setup CD - it's will overwrite MBR..."Access IBM Recovery" based on HPA + BIOS... access to BIOS we don't have (to change some routines) - so BIOS we can change to boot-cd...
ideas Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 hey, nice project.... and i would love to see the working result, i've been interested in this for years now but still can't figure it out nor have gotten the right answers from anyone. but once their is persistence it will come true.
jaclaz Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 With all due respect, before starting looking around for a programmer and create from scratch a MBR, it would be advisable to spend some time SEARCHING for already made solutions:http://www.msfn.org/board/recovery-partition-t110914.htmlhttp://www.msfn.org/board/recovery-partiti...4.html&st=3jaclaz
