Windows Update Downloader error

Hey guys, new here. Name's Chris.

I need some help.

I'm trying to use Windows Update Downloader and I keep getting the following whenever I try to update the UL (Update list).

It worked the first time I downloaded it.

Now it doesn't. Can anyone help? I've tried reinstalling numerous times, restarting then reinstalling, deleting the directory, tried to delete the key in the registry but it's not there.

I need to use this program because my stupid gay a$$ school has this ridiculous firewall (I go to boarding school) and I cannot update windows.

The message is:

See the end of this message for details on invoking

just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

application or computer (machine.config) must have the

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.

The application must also be compiled with debugging

enabled.

For example:

<configuration>

<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />

</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception

will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer

rather than be handled by this dialog box.

First make sure you have .net 2.0

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en

if you do, try downloading the UL from the site and running it

http://wud.jcarle.com/UpdateLists.aspx

AFAIK, WUD doesnt use the registry. just look in its install folder for the list file if you want to delete it

also, your school blocks windows update? that doesn't sound like a very smart thing to do. thats just begging for an outbreak (and all the more reason to get your system up to date). -gotta protect your PC from your classmates out of date vulnerable/infected machines :)

but to be fair, the windows update website blames almost every problem it has on your firewall config so depending on the message, it may not be your schools fault.

Ok. I do have .NET framework 2.0 and 3.0 and I have tried opening the file itself. A window pops up saying File uncompressed or something like that and nothing happens.

:(

I do have Norton bang up to date etc. But I'm the OCD kind with my PC. I like it to be in tip top shape all the time.

Just installed WUD and UL and after I click the Download button I get this error msg:The remote name could not be resolved:'www.download.windowsupdate.com'.

I have tried all that has been suggested in the forum and nothing works. When I attempt to download .NET 2.0 the webpage just fails to load.

Help!!!

:realmad:

Sounds like a DNS or firewall issue.
