tommyp
There is something called hfcleanup to reduce the sourcess during hfslip execution. But please be advised that it is not supported anymore due to lack of interest. Details are on the hfslip website. I may also suggest visiting unattended.msfn.org for details on how to set up keys and how to set up a winnt.sif file. There are two automated ways to set up this file, one is a deployment tool that resides on your xp installation cd and you can always run nlite to get it. In either case, you can simpliy copy the winnt.sif file to either your source\i386 folder or your fix folder prior to running hfslip.
heffalump
Ok I will give that a try. I already found the deployment configuring prog
fdv
I hope you don't mind my adding to this thread. It seems to be a good one! I would like to know some links to tutorials or guides on how to remove some components using HFSLIP? For example how to remove Remote Registry from even installing, or Windows Tour.Well, this one's easy.Put this in an INF file, like AXANT5 or one of the HIV files...HKLM,"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RemoteRegistry","Start",0x10001,04,00,00,00 It sets RemoteRegistry Service to disabled. Warning, you won't be able to use any fancy remote admin tools on any of your users' PCs though.Windows Tour, you just have to know the filename and comment it out from TXTSETUP. You might benefit from running nLite but then comparing pre- and post-Windows files to see what nLite is actually deleting.
heffalump
That is a good idea to compare the differences. I really want to be able to use the options nLite provided without actually running SOURCESS through it (because it doesn't work too well!). It is only for a handful of computers which won't be changing much after initial setup so I don't need all the remote tools. But if I can leave it in and set it to disabled to start with, that will do fine for some extra security. Thanks for the tips

tommyp
new2 - you really have to visit tomcat76's hotfix list site to get the essential hotfixes. You have a mixed bag of ie5 and ie6 updates as well as oe5 and oe6 updates. You need one or the other. Once you visit TC's site, select what you want to slipstream on top and grab all the files on the bottom. Your HF folder should not have files that aren't listed. new2hfslip
Well I got a new ISO made and it works without problems. I took only the files that were listed on Tommy's website and put them in the mix. I wonder about all the optional patches and hot fixes on the Windows Download website. Some of them seem to, per the description, that they expand the functionality of Windows 2000 in small limited ways in a particular area. That is how I needed up with so many originally. One hot fix in particular is the Security update Service Pack one that contains all the security updates to a certain point. It was released a long while after Service Pack 4. I wonder why those are not recommended by the slipstream pros to be used. Thank you for your help. Oh two points of interest while HFSLIP was opening the hot fixes. During the phase I am refering to HFSLIP opens the hot fixes and copies the files. Two Hot fixes when HFSLIP opened them had zero files copied. I thought that rather odd. They were: KB904368 and KB926121. Anyone know if that has any significance? Edited December 7, 2007 by new2hfslip
