Reboot dialog missing in KERNELUP and EXPLOR98

Recommended Posts

KERNELUP and EXPLOR98 intallers will show the "You must REBOOT NOW" warning, but it's not followed by the "Do you want to restart your computer now?" dialog which actualy restart the computer.

What are you speaking about ?

Ok, ...

When you run any update proposed by MDGx (except these two), at the end of the process there is the message box reading:

"You must REBOOT NOW for the update to take effect" then, a second message box reading: "Do you want to restart your computer now?" with "Yes" and "No" buttons. If you press "Yes" the computer will restart.

With KERNELUP and EXPLOR98 intallers there is only the "You must REBOOT NOW for the update to take effect" message then nothing.

There is no Yes/No message box to restart the computer.

Of course, as you have been warned to reboot your computer, you will eventualy do it by pressing the "start" button, but as this is extremely important it's safer to add the shut down dialog box, or not to forget it.

You may want to tell MDGx about this and email him so that he can revise the KERNELUP and EXPLOR98 patches to display the "you must reboot now" dialog box. Not a huge problem since he can do this easily.

I had to tweak the SED files a bit to make this happen, because normally it doesn't without tweaking.

But at your request, here they are:

* Unofficial Windows 98 SE 256 Colors Icons Explorer EXPLORER.EXE

4.72.3612.1710 Fix:

http://www.mdgx.com/files/explor9x.php

- EXPLORER.EXE Fix [172 KB, English]:

http://www.mdgx.com/files/EXPLOR98.EXE

- EXPLORER.EXE Fix [175 KB, Italian]:

http://www.mdgx.com/files/ITEXPL98.EXE

- OLD EXPLORER.EXE 4.72.3612.1700 Fix [174 KB, Brazilian Portuguese]:

http://www.mdgx.com/files/BREXPL98.EXE

* Unofficial Windows 98/98 SP1/98 SE Stack Corruption KRNL386.EXE 4.10.2000

Fix:

- KRNL386.EXE Fix [175 KB, English]:

- KRNL386.EXE Fix [178 KB, Italian]:

All languages have been updated, but I don't have any other language Windows OS besides English, so I can't actually test properly.

BTW:

What I have discovered while messing with INF/SED files [compiling Iexpress exe installers]...

In Italian language [not tested with any other language except English] this INF directive returns an error message if I try to install Italian exe installer on my English OS [Win98 SE used]. :(

From an INF file (generic example):

[Version]

Signature=$CHICAGO$

AdvancedINF=2.5

[DefaultInstall]

UpdateInis=WX

[WX]

WININIT.INI,Rename,,"NUL=%10%\WININIT.LOG"

This works properly in English language.
