deweylovem Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 I have a home network with 2 pc's cabled to a linksys router Wrt54g. Then the router is cabled to an Arris telephony modem to connect to the internet. Both pc's have win XP with SP2. Dewey can access Dotty's files, but Dotty can only access Dewey's files when Dewey is in safe mode. I have tried shutting down processes and services on Dewey that don't run in safe mode but this didn't help. Dotty can see Dewey in her workgroup, but gets "access denied- see administrator for permission" message.Hope someone can help. I have run out of ideas.
eyeball Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 if it works in safe mode only, i would suggest that a 3rd party firewall or something is to blame
deweylovem Posted November 7, 2007 Author Posted November 7, 2007 I have turned off the firewall, but it didn,t help. I am using only windows firewall and it allows file sharing in the exceptions. I searched for any other firewall files, but none came up. Thanks for trying to help.
Ponch Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Check the "Security" properties of the shared folders. Especially if one is under "Documents and Settings".
eyeball Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 do you have simple file sharing disabled on both of these computers?
deweylovem Posted November 8, 2007 Author Posted November 8, 2007 I don't know how to find "simple file sharing".
rendrag Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I don't know how to find "simple file sharing".from windows explorer (looking at the c:\ drive for example) go to Tools | Folder Options . From the View tab, scroll all the way to the bottom of the list. See if simple file sharing is checked or not, and let us know.
deweylovem Posted November 8, 2007 Author Posted November 8, 2007 Neither computer has the "simple file sharing" option under the view tab in folder options. I tried a screen shot, to show you, but it didn't work.
Ponch Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 It's in the bottom of the list of "Advanced Settings" on the View tab, not just at the bottom of the tab.
deweylovem Posted November 8, 2007 Author Posted November 8, 2007 I have scrolled to the bottom of "advanced settings", in the "view" tab of "folder options" but it isn't there. I have also checked the "general", and "file Types" tabs.I have searched my computer, and "Help and support" for "Simple File sharing", but there is no mention of it at all. I have a version 2002 of win XP home OS with SP2 and all the latest updates.i tried to upload a photo of my folder options screen, but it was too large.. I tried a screen shot, but it didn't work. Sorry.
deweylovem Posted November 8, 2007 Author Posted November 8, 2007 (edited) I was able to take a screen shot. Here it is. Edited November 8, 2007 by deweylovem

deweylovem Posted November 9, 2007 Author Posted November 9, 2007 I have never done this b4. Where do I type it?
Ponch Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Create a txt file, copy-paste that text in it, rename with .reg extention, launch with double click.
