kartel Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 (edited) I need to know if there's any tips on installing Vista?Should I disable some stuff like the promise SATA ?I am going to use a floppy with the 8237R sata drivers on it.I have only 1 SATA drive, do I use SATAIDE\WXP\ or VRAIDDrv\VISTA\x86\ ??Thanks Edited November 5, 2007 by kartel
redxii Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Try installing without loading drivers from a floppy, maybe Vista already has a driver for it.
microsurfer Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 (edited) Vista has already a SATA driver as redxii wrote. After installing Vista, it would be a nice idea though to download & install VIA drivers. At least that's what I did with my Asus a8v mobo and everything is fine. kartel Posted November 10, 2007 Author Posted November 10, 2007 Well I need to know if my dualcore will work on Vista.I'd like to use the A8V on Vista but nobody can help me prove my theory that the VIA 939 is going to work.I am deciding between a AMD 4000 or AMD 4200X2I need to get some real info on the A8V, please.I did google around but I see all is from 2005, anyone use this now?
Polarman Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 I'd like to use the A8V on Vista but nobody can help me prove my theory that the VIA 939 is going to work.I don't see why not because Via HAS chipset drivers (v5.13A) for Vista right here.Single,Dual and Quad core all work on Vista.Get latest Realtek Audio drivers for Vista (Not from Asus site) here.Get latest Marvell Lan drivers here.If your not going to use any RAID, i suggest disabling it in the bios along with parallel, infrared and serial port if those are not in use as well.
kartel Posted November 11, 2007 Author Posted November 11, 2007 (edited) Yes thats good advice, thanks, and for the links, gj.I'm already there on those, I got the latest bios dated 2007 too, I'm thinking it contains some Vista fixes, I hope.(4.56 just incase) One thing I dont get is on the ASUS site, the bios is listed under DOS and ALL OS.I'm confused, the newest bios says DOS.Is this just a bad listing or language type error? And it says beta bios..... First of all, i hate Asus web site. Many swear by Asus but this does not include me. (i'll get flamed for this... MSI = )Flashing a BIOS should always be done under DOS regardless of your OS and it should only be done when your system is stable.
kartel Posted November 14, 2007 Author Posted November 14, 2007 (edited) I just found a 4200X2 939 and had it tested, will be putting it all together Nov. 21, I'll keep you posted.Anyone know how much faster this new setup will be compared to my XP3200?I'm getting excited! kartel Posted November 23, 2007 Author Posted November 23, 2007 Well I got my rig up and running.I am getting some errors though:Machine Check Event reported is a fatal memory hierarchy error. Trasaction Type: 3 Memory Hierarchy Level: 1 Request Type: 14 Address: 0I memtested my ram with ZERO errors after 4 complete runs.I have alot of things in the bios that I dont understand:Search for MDAresources=?AGP 3.0 calibration cycle=?PCI delay transaction=?Allocate IRQ to PCI VGA=I have AGP, DISABLE?32bit Data transfer=?Also if I try to "sleep", my computer fails to resume and freezes. Please anyone with some definate answers for this Mobo on Vista x86
kartel Posted November 23, 2007 Author Posted November 23, 2007 (edited) think I'll disable this, first off.just wanna document this for future usage here on the forumIf you have a monochrome display adaptor installed, this adaptor will be on the PCI or ISA bus. The chipset must be aware of it so that it can map the monochrome memory space to it.This is where the Search for MDA Resources BIOS feature comes in. It controls the chipset's search for the monochrome display adaptor. If you have a monochrome display adaptor installed, you should enable this BIOS feature. This allows the chipset to search for the adaptor on the PCI and ISA bus; and set it up properly. If you do not have a monochrome display adaptor installed, you should disable this BIOS feature. This may reduce the time required to boot up the system by skipping the search for a monochrome display adaptor. Edited November 23, 2007 by kartel
kartel Posted November 23, 2007 Author Posted November 23, 2007 Well I disabled search for MDA resources and this boot I didn't get the error.I also reduced my AGP aperature to 128mb, instead of 256mb.So far so good! What a difference from the XP3200, wow.I gained 600MB/s just with the memory controller over the Nforce2.
