Nerwin Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Hey everyone, I am FINALLY going to rebuild my system with some new parts!!!But I have 6 CPUS and eh they all look really good and I just want your two cents on whats the best choice. So here they are:-AMD Choices-http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&CatId=2331http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...p?EdpNo=3273141http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...p?EdpNo=2905661Or-Intel Choices-http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...p?EdpNo=2643933http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...p?EdpNo=3274083http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&CatId=2396Thank you!!
puntoMX Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 I would say the Q6600 and tweak/OC it a bit. Mix it with a GA-P35-DS3R (rev. 2.0) or GA-P35-DS3 (rev. 2.0) so .
Nerwin Posted September 14, 2007 Author Posted September 14, 2007 wow!! I didnt even know it was quad! man how fast would that be? (kicks AMDs Butt lol) I think I might buy, the mobo you suggestion looks awesome, But i wanna know if theres a better one? I would love to OC it a bit without it being unstable.
Zxian Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Intel Quad all the way. I've got my Q6600 up to 2.7GHz right now without any hiccups or problems. I think ripken pushed his to 3.0GHz the other day.The Gigabyte board seems to have good overall reviews. I'd pick the DS3R over the DS3, but that's just me.
Nerwin Posted September 14, 2007 Author Posted September 14, 2007 thank you guys sooo much!! I have a gigabyte right now and I tell you, it is awesome, I never had a problem with it, Its sweet! so that mobo most have the multiplier unlocked right? Its amazing, When i bought my P4 it was like 329.99 and i can now get a quad core & 2.4 for only 289.99 and that like makes me mad hehe But man I think if i get that Q6600 and 2 gigs of DDR2 PC8500 and a raptor hard drive, well she should be screaming huh? oh as for the video card goes, I already have a 7600 GT KO 256Mb and I think i will buy another and do SLI and have 512MB and dubble the speed, I don't game, But I think it would be a really nice system

Zxian Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 If you don't game... the SLI will be a waste of money. As for the Raptor discussion... see here. vegetto didn't seem to follow most people's advice, but hopefully you'll see the light. The motherboard doesn't control the multiplier - the CPU does. The Q6600 has an unlocked multiplier between 6x and 9x. This lets you push up the FSB and lower the multi to get a "perfect" overclock.
Nerwin Posted September 14, 2007 Author Posted September 14, 2007 (edited) Ok cool, But I need 2 video cards for future stuff that I will be doing I do Game a little Plus I am trying to beat a friend at a better computer HEHE!! since where always trying to beat each others, Mine his kinda in the lead Edited September 14, 2007 by computerMan
ripken204 Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 (edited) SLI is pointless in my opinion, especially when the vista drivers really suck for SLI.zxian, i finally decided to go raid0 and ur OC is not good, lol. i was confused and thought it was a 3.7, now that would be a nice OC on air for a Q6600. im at 3GHz for now and i cant wait to bring it up. with your nice heatsink you could definatly get some more out of it. puntoMX Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 But man I think if i get that Q6600 and 2 gigs of DDR2 PC8500...Just buy some 1.8-1.9volt 800MHz DDR2, no need for PC8500 or any thing...
Zxian Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Ok cool, But I need 2 video cards for future stuff that I will be doing I do Game a little Plus I am trying to beat a friend at a better computer HEHE!!Future stuff I will be doing = what exactly? I honestly can't see too many applications where you need more than one video card.@ripken - I'll see if I can go up to 3 or 3.2 this weekend. I know someone else over at SPCR who managed to get 3.2 with the Ultra120 and have temps stay below 60C. 8x400 is looking mightly appealing....
ripken204 Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 zxian-well just watch ur temps then. 60C is just too risky for me. what voltage are you using? 1.4v seems to be pretty favorable for nice OCscomputerMan-zxian is right, 2 cards really has no purpose. maybe if you are a game developer but then u wouldnt even be getting those types of cards. or maybe if you have like 2x22" monitors..
Zxian Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Right now I'm at stock voltages. I'll see how far I can go on stock voltages before things get unstable.
Nerwin Posted September 15, 2007 Author Posted September 15, 2007 Well if you guys really wanna know, Where moving to a larger house and I'm going to be getting like another 21 inch widescreen. and I will not be using vista since I hate vista and windows vista sucks to me, I like Windows XP and thats what I am sticking with for now But its really non of your business on why i am buying 2 video cards -Sorry- (I have my reasons) Plus its for my education, cause I also never done it before. So its nice that you guys are telling me its pointless, but if I dont like it, i'm going to put the second one in my other computer cause one will be a VMware server for: File server, Media Server and Test System so I am buying another widescreen so yes that will be 3 on my desk Hey I am a busy person, got a problem with that, and plus when you have a lot of money why not splurge on some stuff hehe!! i really do aprrecaite you guys helping me, but you also can't change my mind, but I may not buy another, But I am going to anyways cause at the end of our tech school theres a competitions for the top five most computer geeky people in the class that the teacher chooses and we have some fun showing off our own PC its just for fun and theres cake, food and stuff, you know, geeks....
ripken204 Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 lol, nice. so i'm assumming one of you reasons is to watch 10,000 porn vids at once on multiple 21" monitors and where is jcarle, he would suggest spending that extra money on hard drives, which would actually give you better performance than another card(unless you really have a good reason for it..?)zxian - the max ive OCed so far is 3.6GHz with a little over 1.4v, load was ~60C. but im not gunna leave it up there. right now im testing for 3Ghz at 1.248v which is less than stock voltage and load is just under 50C. so i may stay there, maybe i can get the voltage even lower.
