clidx Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 (edited) i bought a maxtor 6Y200P0 (200gb, Maxtor Diamondmax9) and recently it died. i bought it from ultratec.co.uk and it was refurbished, it's only been a couple of days past the 90 day warranty period so no rma'ing.sometimes windows can briefly access the data on it but then the partition just disappears and mouse movements etc in windows become jerky, I guess because ide doesn't support hot-plugging...if it's firmware corruption, then is there a LEGAL way to get the firmware YAR41BWO? (bios detects it as Maxtor CALYPSO. either that or my pc doesn't boot. sometimes it detects it as Maxtor 6Y200P0)if not, what are my other options? i don't need data recovery, nothing in it is important as i haven't had it for long enough but what are my options?EDIT Seagate's warranty expired in march... well i couldn't expect much for a refurbished drive. puntoMX Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 Still I would contact Maxtor/Seagate and ask for a replacement. Some times, they replace the drive even when it’s out of warranty. The only cost you will have is that you need it to send to Ireland as I remember. Check the Seagate site to make a RMA report.(Any one correct me if my info is outdated please.)
DL. Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 (edited) Since you're in the UK (according to your flag) it probably isn't very expensive to send it to Ireland, of course it depends on whether that's even possible as punto said. But it may be worth a shot if you care to do it...Edit: Corrected a typo. Edited August 27, 2007 by DL.
clidx Posted August 27, 2007 Author Posted August 27, 2007 Ok thanks for the advice... i'll see what i can squeeze out of seagate.
